Sure, they might have your previous data.
But you know what they *don't* have?
They don't have your *future* data.
It's never too late to start improving your data privacy online. Every small step helps.

@Em0nM4stodon I agree with this point
Data has an expiration date and becomes less useful with age
I'm sure there is plenty about me before a certain date but that gets less relevant each day
There are things I can't help but share for legal or practical reasons but for everything else, its all smoke and mirrors and things that are purposely difficult to tie together
I tell people that you don't have to remove data, just stop adding to it
Personal details are often very malleable
@Em0nM4stodon I feel like one of the hardest things for us might be to accomplish fincancial privacy.
Cash is good, but it is only paper and does not have real value. Monero is a good alternative, I think. But it is not widely used so far.
We'll get there, lets keep on fighting!
@Em0nM4stodon I don't worry too much about my data.
I do, however, not want them to have my money anymore.
Self-hosted, here we come! :O
@Em0nM4stodon I deleted my Instagram account last week and feel empowered by it. I deleted Facebook 10 years ago and have never missed it. I still have WhatsApp on my phone but haven't used it in 9 years.
It is possible to unplug from the worst offenders and be fine
@Em0nM4stodon i'm almost certain that my current profile picture was taken in 2012 and if not, 2013.
there is only one other picture of me on the internet that is newer than that, and it is my Steam profile picture which was taken in infrared.
The way I describe it it's like having an uninsulated house with drafty doors and windows that hot air blasts out of from every direction. Even if it's been going on for a while, and even if you can't get it all, it's never too late to take a big can of spray foam to that shit and stop the worst of it.
I also point out to people that while some things like birthdays and Social Security numbers don't change, virtually everything else about us can and usually does. Especially when it comes to advertising and political influence, old data goes stale.
Plus, by putting in a different wrong birthdate whenever you get the chance, over time you pollute that data.
