This exceptionalism, the rose-tinted glasses, pretending that it couldn't happen here is what kept the majority of the population from being able to effectively safeguard against it happening here. We can't pretend we're better than "this" or it all but guarantees we won't be. It can happen here, it is happening here, and the sooner the majority gets on board, the sooner we can mount an effective counter.
(I say "majority", but take heart: studies show that only a sustained 15% of a population is needed for an effective revolution.)

(Which them presumably also get flagged by the censors when they become common or recognized enough.)
And then of course there's the whole saying "unalive" instead of "kill" because the algorithm will bury your post and/or shadow ban you.

The agency has been tasked in reducing the budget by a huge amount (think billion(s)).
They are using NLP to identify all programs that use certain keywords/concepts to cut.
My guess is "climate" would be one of the phrases.

@georgetakei Things have flipped 180. Just a year or two ago, if you wanted to get any sort of earth science thing funded, you figured out a way to work climate change into it.
The Right hated on censorship when it was out of power, but seems to be just as happy as the Left to use it once in power. Meet the new boss...
Plenty of earth and other science has been funded that had nothing to do with climate. It's just that there's an extra interest in climate because of the urgency of the CO2-induced climate change. But nothing got censored merely for not being about climate.
Right now, it's pretty clear they want to ignore climate change and silence as many scientists as possible that might want to talk about it, because the obvious solution to the problem hurts the profits of their oil business donors.
