I've started posting on LinkedIn all the unconstitutional shit Trump and Musk are doing to undermine the security and integrity of our government. Mainly because that crowd needs to hear it most. It's incredible how many people in the infosec space are still defending the actions of DOGE and its dear leader(s). And they're not all crypto bros and AI peddlers; we're talking about people in some pretty important roles, tech-wise.

But at least when they reply with the inevitable "stay in your lane" or "I used to like you when you stayed out of politics," they are on record as complicit and totally okay with what is going on.

I posted a slightly edited version of this post on LinkedIn, and added this bit in reply to the DOGE supporters in infosec:

For those folks, I would say this: There is zero daylight anymore between the prerogatives of national security and cybersecurity. If you seriously believe otherwise, you should probably go find another profession. As one goes, so goes the other. The systematic efforts by DOGE to dismantle various checks and balances on executive power are very much a threat to both.

@briankrebs
And I am sure that they have installed software to guarantee that they are in control of everything...

@briankrebs

👏It’s 👏a👏coup!

Thanks for your attempt to draw attention to the peril ALL Americans are facing from the criminal enterprise currently occupying the highest levels of power in the country. #Resist #USpol #Coup

@briankrebs At first "DOGE's" subversive activities are a threat to the rights & liberties of us all.

Despite its lack of congressional confirmation & approval of being established as a government agency.

@briankrebs If you put the LinkedIn link here, it'd be easier for me to repost on there rather than tracking it down under your profile.

#linkedin

@briankrebs Thank you. Even if you put politics aside, attaching an UNAUTHORIZED, UNVERIFIED email server is BAD SECURITY. How can you be in IT/Infosec and defend those types of actions? If you feel that way, turn in your degree/certs/credentials.
@briankrebs for some reason, many people is embracing social Darwinism?

@alpradocabrero @briankrebs

If you think neoliberalism to the end, it's social darwinism.

Unfortunately, a lot of tech bros were raised under the assumption that their techiness makes them superior beings. So they assume, they'll be on the winning team forever.

@AdmSnackbar @briankrebs Yes you are right. And why are they taking their masks off just now? Is it that they are feeling the water up their knees (end of the game), and they don't care anymore about covering their psychopathy?

@alpradocabrero @briankrebs

Because solidarity didn't work.

At least in theory, there was the consensus after WW2 that a strong state that sets guidelines for the greater good was desirable. That meant taxes, regulation, large public sector (including military) and at least the promise of a better life.

That dream and the consensus were slowly eroded by rich people until we're now in a situation of collapse. Suddenly egoism is en vogue again.

@alpradocabrero @briankrebs

Neoliberalism gives at least to those on top, or to those who believe they'll get there, the hope not to be a victim during that collapse.

I think a lot of people sense that the Western democracy hit a wall. It's failing its citizens and now it's war everyone against everyone.

@AdmSnackbar @briankrebs sadly, that sounds spot on. Then we have team 'psichopats', team 'everyone is important' and team 'there is football tonight'? What a war 🤦🏻
@briankrebs people wrongly believe they will benefit and fail to realize if you aren't in the room right now you will lose

@whoosh @briankrebs @jeffowski

Well. This is handy.

Hate to be the SysAdmin stacking disks in every month to hold the database.

@briankrebs
The general public is brainwashed by mainstream media.
@briankrebs Same! It's been a good way to prune the withering, infested branchet of my network.
@briankrebs I wonder if those people in important roles are being such enablers because they are afraid they'd get flak from any witch hunt that might happen (ex: FBI agents on J6 case) or they are kissing ass to get in good terms with the new king.
Or maybe that's just my way of lying to myself about the amount of shitty people this world is riddled with.
@briankrebs personally I don't engage in linkedin in any way because it might mean not getting a job. That's because I am not self employed
@sr3 @briankrebs yeah I don’t think people are voicing their true opinion on LinkedIn just for that very reason but still good get real ideas out in those spaces nonetheless. Even if what’s said isn’t what they think, people are still thinking about it.
@sr3 @briankrebs
yup, they are also the ones that are saying that they would stand up for the nazi guys in the 30s.

@sr3 @briankrebs in my view you don’t get to be CISO in traditional industry or software or whatever without being a blocker/enabler for the growth-at-all-costs mindset. The seceng who believes the work they do is to protect the customer never makes CISO. The MBA who is a good “yes man”, will cover and obfuscate for the product teams, and plays politics gets the C suite ticket.

Their personalities are such that they’ll always go along to get along to keep climbing the ladder.

@eviljarred @sr3 @briankrebs it scares me, the people falling in line. And what are the consequences of not agreeing ot having an opposing view
@gerbrand @eviljarred @briankrebs if you're ever reading about a historic event where you go: "how come such a small group of people managed to make such a large group of people commit something so horrible?"
It was this. More then being a collaborator, it's being complacent.
@sr3 @eviljarred @briankrebs On my LinkedIn I came across this rather exchange of message. Troubling is the amount of people not only agree with John, but also stating apologizing statements on Elon. #scala

@gerbrand @eviljarred @briankrebs Notice his choice to speak out, to reply to. It wasn't of a trump or musk support, quite the opposite.
That was a choice.

And then pretending "they" are bringing politics into everything while he's just trying to live his apolitical life in peace. The poor thing.

@sr3 @eviljarred @briankrebs if there's some discourse about ai regulation, privacy laws, finance of it tech no one complains about the need to be 'apolitical'.
@briankrebs Also, isn’t cybersecurity in your lane?
@briankrebs Imagine if the Nazis had an “Internet” where individuals could record which side of history they were on for the world to see in perpetuity. Well imagine no more!
@briankrebs When people bitch about anything remotely about "This is a business site, and politics should stay out." My response is "I'll keep my politics out of business the day business gets out of politics."

@lerxst @briankrebs During the lockdown, I posted about a F2F job interview at a company where, after the masked job seeker walks into the interview conference room, several people are unmasked. The seeker asks about moving to a break area outdoors. It's shot down. "Thanks but no thanks. I'll show myself out." and the seeker leaves.

Crickets. No response from anyone. And recruiters stopped reaching out with "great opportunities". I set my profile to private and a couple months later just deleted the account altogether.

@lerxst @briankrebs
I had the same conversation yesterday on an author forum. If authors think the book community shouldn’t mention politics when they’re burning and banning books, then I know which side they’re on. And I don’t want to read their books.
@briankrebs just reply to them and say if you’re against these then you’re in support of segregation, concentration camps, and are against the rule of law.
@briankrebs Lot of LinkedInLunatic content lately.
@briankrebs The linked in crowd - and the wrecking ball that is the new administration - “you tell them and you tell them and you tell them and when you are sick to death of telling them they have just started to listen”. It takes a lot to cut through all that toxic positivity.
@briankrebs On one side, I am fascinated how fast this happens (and with even less power to prevent it apparently). on the other side, I am in fear for losing so much knowledge and wisdom just because some people want to save (for a short time) some money... or have "their" power / playground. I am not amused, absolutely not...
@briankrebs Thank you for doing this.

@briankrebs show them all the #PRC and #Putin flaks on social media who are practically jizzing themselves in excitement over the death of #USAID and ask them why they're so excited about the same thing as those people.

#uspol

@briankrebs i also find the defunding of OCCRP gets through to them a little:

@briankrebs This is great! Gonna follow you on LinkedIn just so I can repost your stuff there.

And I may need to start posting the same sort of thing there as well.

@briankrebs not surprising. Over two thirds of US voters were OK with Trump getting elected.
@briankrebs I don’t understand your point. I mean this guy is CLEARLY operating in good faith 🙄
@sfrazer434 @briankrebs >Cyber Security THREAT HUNTER

Guys, I think I found the threat. It was coming from INSIDE the house.
@sfrazer434 @briankrebs they are literally enabling it to hide its machinations by altering and destroying records. These people are so obtuse.

@briankrebs Remind them at the end of the day, this will impact their business, their customers, and society as a whole.

Perfectly acceptable to post on LinkedIn!

These people need to get their head out of the grind.

@briankrebs In times of adversity, people generally reveal their true character.

@briankrebs They believe him to be a genius and anyone saying anything negative are just jealous of his wealth. So they believe what he is doing now will be for the good of the country just like what it did to his businesses to grow his wealth.

It’s a fantasy they think will benefit them.

They are likely to be exploitative of their subordinates just as Musk is to his. The thing they don’t realize is they are now subordinate to Musk and will be exploited.

@briankrebs do people actually engage in discourse on LinkedIn? I must not follow the right spaces.
@briankrebs I see your LinkedIn posts. When I see my connections boost or make dumb comments it helps me know whom to keep or remove as connections.
@briankrebs Which just proves, that even people holding "important" positions are not immune to mis- & disinformation, or just don't care to distinguish between facts & lies, because they're as vulnerable to Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD) as Trump, Musk & their pathocratic court of staunch psychopaths.
@briankrebs Brian, I've respected your work over the years. But in this you're out of your depth. The whole core of this problem *isn't the sitting president*. It's in the enabling supporters. The cult if you will. Without them backing him up he'd just be some vicious bitter old man yelling at kids to GTFO his lawn. Yes, it's made up of regular people too caught up in this grab for total hegemonic power.
...And you'll have to fight them if you ever want to have a functional democracy again.
@briankrebs Dont know you, but keep it up! This is such a great work so keep going.
@briankrebs Be nice if you could share that list here on Mastodaon.
@briankrebs Reposting you now on Linkedin.
@briankrebs - "In a democracy people get the leaders they deserve" - Joseph de Maistre (1753-1821)

@briankrebs There is a movie that depicts one of the types of people you may be encountering. It's an Italian movie called The Conformist from 1970 and it was made after the war. It's set during the fascist government in Italy. The point of the movie is not clear until the final scene as the regime is falling.

To anyone interested, check it out: https://www.justwatch.com/us/movie/the-conformist It's available on multiple platforms.
