@KatyElphinstone Which led to that vox pop of someone saying "I'm voting Tory because Labour want to take away our food banks".
@KatyElphinstone I didn't think it was funny. That person had a vote.

@TimWardCam

I do apologise. I literally thought you were joking!

@KatyElphinstone I'm afraid not, it was a true story. (Well, reported plausibly as such, anyway.)
@KatyElphinstone oh but then people couldn’t take photos of themselves donating to poor people. Where would they get their sense of self-worth if they couldn’t give for photo ops and tax deductions??

@maggiejk

Finally enough, I've heard a lot of people pledge donations, publicly, but don't actually ever give them.

@KatyElphinstone Ok maybe hot take, but redefine "Help". Yes, dismantle systems. Yes, campaign and vote responsibly. This doesn't annul our duty to help our fellow people in real time. Give that homeless man the cash in your wallet. Give your time, a meal, a helping hand to your neighbors. Give of yourself to the people you meet in everyday life. Systemic changes take a lot of time, and people are suffering now. Donation is done at a distance. So is voting. Get your hands in there. 2 cents
