Raw milk recalled for containing bird flu virus, California reports

One more reason drinking raw milk is a bad idea.

Ars Technica
@arstechnica Presumably the raw milk advocates responded to this news saying you should absolutely drink bird-flu contaminated milk it in order to strengthen your immune system or something.

@arstechnica

RFK in shambles!*

*lol not really. He’s too stupid to care.

@arstechnica Realistically it is only a matter of time before this jumps to human to human. And you can bet your ass that RFK is going to destroy any tools we have in place to detect this.
But don't worry. Republicans are here to make sure to blame Dems for *hand waves* whatever.
@arstechnica It was stupid to do in the 1980s (when it was briefly "a thing”) and it still is stupid.
@WTL @arstechnica it seems like that RFKjr guy is 100% going to push to open up raw milk sales, and statistically we know that it will, predictably, kill people. I hope the US media is up to the job of making him wear that culpability.
@ottaross @WTL @arstechnica All those tragic kids' deaths at #Canada's residential schools; three guesses how most, probably, died: TB from raw milk.
@ottaross @WTL @arstechnica Maybe he'll tell people to heat the milk up, like it says in the bible. #PoesLaw
@dan613 @WTL @arstechnica yep, there's no floor to the crazy anymore.
@WTL @arstechnica @ottaross there is no hope the media is up to the job. They’ve been failing miserably for decades.

@arstechnica “The detection of bird flu in retail raw milk is troubling but not surprising given the unprecedented and ongoing outbreak of H5N1 bird flu among US dairy cows…”

"Troubling but not surprising" is more restraint than I think I could manage writing about this.

@arstechnica something's telling me that people who drink raw milk are also people who don't care about recalls.
@arstechnica why would anybody in his/her right mind want to drink raw … anyway, never mind
@arstechnica What the hell, I have to wear a haz mat suit when I handle chicken (no longer), eggs may or not spread salmonella, raw milk was never an item, may foods suspect. Damn it, tell me peanut butter ain't toxic!
@arstechnica I wish my former classmate would get the memo that raw milk is dangerous. It's sad to see that she went down the homestead alt right pipeline and brags about feeding raw milk to her kids. The worst part is she's a nurse on top of this.
@arstechnica Luckily in unrelated news https://edition.cnn.com/2024/11/21/health/bird-flu-virus-mutations-canada-teen/index.html
"The H5N1 bird flu virus that infected the teen, who is in critical but stable condition, is not the same strain that is transmitting in dairy cattle in the United States."
Bird flu virus isolated from hospitalized Canadian teen shows signs of human adaptation

The avian flu virus isolated from a hospitalized teenager in Vancouver has mutations in key areas that could help the virus spread more easily in humans, scientists say.

@arstechnica I didn't think we needed more than one reason. You can just stop after listing diarrhea on any warning label.

@arstechnica

RFKJ wants you to drink this milk. he will do everything he can as HHS secretary to make sure you drink that milk and have no sanitary milk options. RFKJ will preside over millions of preventable deaths as HHS secretary, because he's insane and has no idea what he's talking about.

@arstechnica I’m annoyed…sigh…I’m annoyed that I *have* to care because it’s a (potentially) communicable disease. I mean can we get them back onto bleach or horse dewormer…or arsenic pills or something? Arsenic is all natural…practically a vitamin. I’m good with them offing themselves but I’d just prefer it begin and end there.
@arstechnica Why the hell is raw milk available for retail? Who thought that was a good idea to begin with? Louis Pasteur is shaking his head.
