Can't believe how "Christians" and conservatives here in the U.S. have demonized this vaccine as somehow "sinful" and encouraging "wrong" sex (even beyond the ongoing antivaxer sentiment). Every girl should get the vaccine here, but it isn't likely ever to happen.

@luckytran The early numbers were amazing and the fact that they've continued to be amazing over time is just brilliant. This should go down on the list of the most significant public health interventions in the history of medicine.

They're still ho-humming about it a bit here - strongly recommended for girls, but still not being pushed nearly as heavily for boys as it's only being talked about as "a way to help protect women" rather than "do you want to avoid cancer of the penis? Well...".

@luckytran Mutter hatte nach Corona Impfung heftige Probleme, so ist ihre persönliche Erfahrung sehr negativ. Impfung ist schlecht. Sie hat ihrer Tochter jegliche Impfung verboten, weder Corona noch HPV. Als 12-Jährige hat sie keine Chance, da ihr Vater sagt Mutter entscheidet.

Ich gab ihr den Tipp, auch Jungs können und sollten gegen HPV geimpft sein.

@luckytran the infuriating thing is that some conservative politicians were opposed to HPV vaccines and their easy/free availability in grounds that it would give 'their daughters' 'license to be promiscuous'.

In Australia, one of those politicians was later found to be having an affair with a parliamentary aide...
