Question for folks who workout, in my workouts the trainers take breaks to sip water during the workout. Is this something most people do? I can't because I will aspirate water into my lungs if I'm breathing hard. I need to wait until my respiration comes down before I can drink if I don't want to choke or aspirate whatever beverage I'm drinking but I didn't know if this is just my body with its lung disease and swallowing issues. Today I managed 15 minutes 13 seconds average per mile! Woo! 💪🥵
@Pawpower I have, but it really depends what I'm doing. If it's a lot of running, then yes probably. I mean, marathons have water stations set up explicitly for that purpose.
@Pawpower yes I do that and most peeple I know do that as well.
@Pawpower I know that when I'm doing my water workouts, I pause between sets for water. I finish the bottle after the workout as part of the cooling down.
@changeling Interesting! I drink a lot of water after my workout, and during the day. I just don't do it if my respiration rate is elevated.
@Pawpower I do yes, but I tend to take tiny sips.
@Pawpower Absolutely, it is something most people do. I suspect you probably need actual medical advice on this, but Iwould think this. Try to aim for breathing that allows you to talk, but not sing, and, it is not important to do all your exercise at once, although if you're paing for gym/trainer time, you would obviously want to
@davetaylor2112 I have lung disease, so I actually can't talk or sing when my breathing gets elevated because these things are difficult for me even when it is not. I also have other issues such as vestibular disease which make exercise tricky. I definitely want to do it all at once because it is honestly very unpleasant for me for a number of reasons and I want to get it over with. So I was mostly just curious. But I'm definitely gonna talk to my pulmonologist about the water
@Pawpower Yeah, do that, because if breathing is so hard, presumably getting enough oxygen round the body to benefit is hard. Make sure you know what's going on with your bloody oxygen, heart rate and so on. I have heart failure, so I had to look into it all for myself, while following the advice I was given.
@Pawpower Sorry, that should have said blood oxygen lol
@Pawpower I don’t sip water during my workouts, but if they are especially sweaty workouts, I try to remember to drink some afterwards.
@kernsac Oh i def drink it down after I'm done working out. I probably drink between 60-80 oz of water a day at the least! And that doesn't include the unsweetened tea or coffee which is probably 30 something ounces. It's so hot here everyone drinks water.
@Pawpower I don't. And the trainer I use doesn't seem to. But I did 10 minutes on the portable elliptical and then a 15-minute Leslie Samsone 1-mile workout.
@nycki96 Can you tell me a little bit about this portable elliptical that you have? I am looking for something like that, but I don't want to have to assemble it because I suck at that, and I'm wondering how you do with using it because a lot of them require that you kind of climb up onto it and throw your leg over like a bicycle… And that is not really something. I'm very good at.
@Pawpower This one just sits under a table and you sit in your chair and pedal it. I can't remember the brand, but I don't think it needed much, if any, assembly.
@nycki96 That's exactly what I'm looking for. Did you buy it on Amazon? I'm really interested.
@Pawpower It was right around $100 and my doctor recommended i get something like this.
@nycki96 OK, I will go look on Amazon and see what I can find because I would really like something like this!
@Pawpower If you have trouble, I will try and see if [email protected] can find the link.
@nycki96 @Pawpower Yeah, I'm one of those who drinks water before the work-out and then after. During is just a pain in the arse. While running maraphons (calm down, I only did a half one), I had a Camel back pack, which is essentially a big bag of water on your back with a hose that you can lift to your mouth while running. I filled it with pure vodka. Kidding, I had water with electrolites in it. That worked for me anyway.
@mcourcel @nycki96 Yes I love those camelback things for kiaking or rafting/tubing. Usually mine was filled with boose lol
@Pawpower @nycki96 Yup, it works well with wine. as well.
@mcourcel @nycki96 @Pawpower Yeah. I drink it before and after. Not during. For me it’s also a thing that I don’t need anything that’ll make me stop working out before I’m done because i won’t go back to it if I do that. I won’t drink while I’m walking or running or whatever.
@nycki96 @Pawpower But machine work, I can't be bothered to drink while exercising.
@Pawpower @nycki96 Bruno has an Elipse and there is also the cubie.
@Pawpower I think I'm a lot like you now in regards to drinking water but when I did wheelchair sports, I just needed to catch my breath a moment then I could slowly drink through a straw capped or bicycle bottle. Everything was heavier plastic with either straws or those bicycle style caps back then.
@Pawpower yeah. not so much a break but was working out last night and while biking and tredmilling slowed down and chugged several sips of water.
@Pawpower People do bring their water bottles to yoga and drink when they can.
