Movie #65: MaXXXine

Pearl is easily the GOAT of this series.

Movie #66: Blade Runner 2049
Movie #67: Ready or Not

Movie #68: The Instigators

It’s like every actor asked “what’s my motivation” and they were told “I don’t know, the script says you do it, so just roll with it.”

Movie #69 (nice): I Saw the TV Glow

Movie #70: The Abyss

And thus completes my Cameron list of shame…well, besides Piranha II, but I'm not holding myself to that 😂

Movie #89: Strange Darling

Really conflicted about this one.

Movie #90: Inception
Movie #91: The Matrix Resurrections

Movie #92: V/H/S/2

A real contender for worst movie I've watched this year, save for 30 minutes in the middle which is some of the best horror you can get.

Movie #93: It’s What’s Inside
@matt The Indonesian one is amazing. I thought Slumber Party Alien Abduction was good until the bit at the end with the poor dog. That ruined it for me.

@matt The cool thing about the Matrix movies that each are different genress: The Matrix - Sci-fi action thriller Reloaded - Sci-fi action superhero(?) movie Revolutions - Sci-fi war movie Ressurections - Sci-fi romantic comedy (that’s both romantic and a comedy).

Ressurections genre change is more abrupt than the others (it’s not really action anymore), but I really love that one too. They’re my favourite movie series of all time.

@torb For sure! I think all 3 sequels are better than many give them credit for, and the ideas in each are brilliant, I just don't think they ever reached the heights of ideas + execution that they nailed in the first.

But I totally love the series too!

@matt It’s like you hate me or something.

I actually agree with your rating, you just used a dirty word in it. 😜

@ChrisLawley @matt please dads stop fighting
@ChrisLawley @nileane I can’t help if this movie was a serious…mood…is that any better? 😅
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F (2024) ⭐ 6.5 | Action, Comedy, Crime

IMDb
@matt I really liked it!
What did you think about the final dialog? I was discussing with some friends whether that was *the* correct recollection or just another crazy theory like the ones we saw Clooney’s character create during the movie.
@rmaraujo You know I hadn’t really thought about it that way. I had assumed it was all very real, but I’ll noodle on it a bit now.
@matt One of your favorite Apple TV movies then? Can think of just a few obvious ones above it?

@tchaten Might be the first I’ve enjoyed at all 😅

Haven’t seen Coda, but yeah, finally!

@matt oh wow lol so Killers of a Flower Moon didn’t hit? You know next project turn those ratings into a searchable database lol
@tchaten Oh I forgot that was an Apple one…yeah that was better, one of my top films of last year.
@matt my wife and I watched it last night. I laughed out loud so many times. Such great writing and directing, both by Jon Watts. Very creative and fun!
@matt WHAT THE FUCK MATT?? Seriously? Again?
@matt is this streaming already?
@BenRiceM @matt It’s available for rent
@j_f @BenRiceM Looks like the physical version came out today too. I just assumed it was everywhere, but haven’t checked iTunes in forever
@matt what app is this? Looks lovely.
@matt I was disappointed. Too many plots that ultimately didn't matter, which can be fine in a "return to" movie, if its fun though. Didn't feel like any plot really mattered in the end, and I couldn't buy the actors as their characters.
@matt You mean prequel! 😉
@matt on my list now! There is another movie in the same world - I hear not as good - https://tv.apple.com/us/movie/caveat/umc.cmc.16muyco412y71h5o5zk9k5u6d
Caveat - Apple TV

In desperate need of money, Isaac accepts a job looking after his landlord’s niece, Olga, for a few days. But there is a catch. He must wear a leather…

Apple TV
@matt have you seen Strange Darling? It’s really good!
@matt FINALLY! A movie we can agree on.
@ChrisLawley They said it would never happen! 😂
@matt oh Matt this is going to be bad for our relationship
@matt Is this a straight remake of his old movie? It was so great.
@agiletortoise I haven't seen the original, but unless the original took place in France then probably not...
@matt Sounds like mostly “yes”, with some updates. Of course, the plot is hardly the most interesting part of a good Woo film, so I don’t know how much it matters. I love the original. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/08/23/movies/the-killer-review.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare
‘The Killer’ Review: John Woo With a French Twist

Woo’s new version of his Hong Kong action movie “The Killer,” starring Nathalie Emmanuel and Omar Sy, may be a remake, but it’s not a retread.

The New York Times
@matt This name is overused - think David Fincher directed a Netflix movie by the same name!
@tchaten He did indeed! I suppose since this is a remake of Woo's 1989 film also called The Killer, he'd probably say he has dibs 😂
@matt Loved this one! Glad it clicked with you even with the decent rating! Did the end credits stinger give you a good laugh?
@tchaten Sorta, although that guy was one of the people who I was like “NO ONE WOULD DO ANYTHING LIKE THIS” so it was dulled a bit 😂
@matt Ah … I am the kind of viewer that buys all into the world setup and goes along with what ride is in store and the decision making of the characters didn’t bother me at all for this one because everything else was so perfect to me
