It’s like every actor asked “what’s my motivation” and they were told “I don’t know, the script says you do it, so just roll with it.”

Movie #69 (nice): I Saw the TV Glow

Movie #70: The Abyss

And thus completes my Cameron list of shame…well, besides Piranha II, but I'm not holding myself to that 😂

Movie #90: Inception

Movie #94: Woman of the Hour

Too exhausted to do a full review 🫣

Movie #95: Salem’s Lot (2024)

@matt have you ever considered doing these reviews for games? Could be interesting!
@matt Ah, beans! I really enjoyed this one.
@keenan I saw your review and had high hopes! I can totally see the good here, too. I just kept waiting for me to connect 😢
@matt i really enjoy your reviews, the act as a prefilled for me (in a way). I also like that you don't say "movie bad" but rather "don't like movie", which is much more fair and actively lets people know that an opinion is just that: an opinion!
@namekkural Thank you! And yeah, in 2023 my scores were bad/okay/good/great but I moved to this new system this year since I also didn't like the idea I was passing objective judgment.
@matt You check this one out in 3D on Apple Vision Pro?
@matt YAY!!! So happy we agree on this one!!!!! Ending was so perfect!
@matt What the fuck Matt??? This movie is not better than Aliens. Is somebody switching labels on the movies in your house? Or do you have a gas leak?? Either way, come to California and I’ll get you set straight.
@ChrisLawley @matt I have to agree with you Chris.
@ChrisLawley I don’t think said it’s better than Aliens, did he?
@ChrisLawley @matt a bunch of teenagers scared shitless on a doomed space station is way more “Alien” than the US Space Army shooting everything that moves 🙂
@ChrisLawley @matt in Matt’s defense, he didn’t say it’s better than Aliens unless I’m missing something 🤷🏻‍♂️
@ramarope @ChrisLawley I did technically call Aliens "decent" earlier in this thread 😬

@matt Maybe I need a rewatch.

I remember it feeling father daughter to me.

Also one of the all time Oldman performances. Stansfield is just unhinged.

@ravi Yeah Oldman is great and the rest of the cast kills it.

Apparently Besson dated a 15 year old in his 30s and this story is inspired by their relationship. She had their baby at 16 😬 Maybe it’s not as big a deal in French culture, but it’s hard not to think about with how Natalie Portman is portrayed in some moments.

@matt oh man!!! Perhaps the ratings name are weird but … can’t believe you didn’t Like this one!!! Freaking great movie

@tchaten What did you love about it? In curious!

FWIW everyone seems to think “decent” means I hated the movie with the heat of 1,000 suns 😂😭 “How’d you like that movie?” “It was decent! Didn’t love it, didn’t dislike it, it was decent.”

@matt since decent is in between didn’t like it and liked it, I guess I could see how people might think in degrees. Being below liked it could mean it was bad but decent doesn’t mean that. In the end, I figure decent means worth watching so that’s not bad.

@tchaten

@Ronnie @tchaten That’s definitely my intent with the rating. Like if someone asked me if they should watch a movie, something I said is “decent” would get a “go for it” from me.

But this has been a challenge for me for years lol. This score was called “okay” for a long time and that gave a negative impression as well. Maybe it’s because it’s on the left side of the list and therefore is on the “bad” side?

Scoring systems are hard 😅

@matt I think if you added one more to the left, hated it then decent moves to the middle. Maybe, then, people would get the intent.

@tchaten

@matt but, really, the problem mostly is people cannot believe that other people didn’t like something as much as they did and that goes for everyone.

@tchaten

@matt I watched the 1979 version this weekend. It was cheesy, long (3 hours), but I would give it a decent
@matt The Indonesian one is amazing. I thought Slumber Party Alien Abduction was good until the bit at the end with the poor dog. That ruined it for me.
@Granneman Yeah, I don’t know what it is, but I really find dead pets in movies distasteful.

@matt The cool thing about the Matrix movies that each are different genress: The Matrix - Sci-fi action thriller Reloaded - Sci-fi action superhero(?) movie Revolutions - Sci-fi war movie Ressurections - Sci-fi romantic comedy (that’s both romantic and a comedy).

Ressurections genre change is more abrupt than the others (it’s not really action anymore), but I really love that one too. They’re my favourite movie series of all time.

@torb For sure! I think all 3 sequels are better than many give them credit for, and the ideas in each are brilliant, I just don't think they ever reached the heights of ideas + execution that they nailed in the first.

But I totally love the series too!
