Movie #55: In a Violent Nature
Regular reminder that these are made with https://quickreviews.app and you can also follow me on Letterboxed https://letterboxd.com/mattbirchler/
Movie #59: Twisters
Packed theater, too and they seemed into it.
Movie #60: Aliens
Letās get myself into some troubleā¦
Movie #61: Alien³
Woof.
Movie #65: MaXXXine
Pearl is easily the GOAT of this series.
Movie #68: The Instigators
Itās like every actor asked āwhatās my motivationā and they were told āI donāt know, the script says you do it, so just roll with it.ā
Movie #70: The Abyss
And thus completes my Cameron list of shameā¦well, besides Piranha II, but I'm not holding myself to that š
Movie #71: Detained
I guess it's nice that this job probably made a few people eligible for health insurance for the year š¬
Movie #78: Furiosa
(āitās furiosAAAā)
Movie #86: Batman: The Long Halloween
FWIW this was released in 2 parts, and this is a review of them together.
Movie #87: House
The rare "I can't even put a score on this" movie.
Movie #89: Strange Darling
Really conflicted about this one.
Movie #92: V/H/S/2
A real contender for worst movie I've watched this year, save for 30 minutes in the middle which is some of the best horror you can get.
Movie #94: Woman of the Hour
Too exhausted to do a full review š«£
Movie #96: New Life
Also I could be mistaken, but the main character is never in the suit shown in the poster during the whole movieā¦
Movie #97: Doctor Sleep
Getting close to that 100th movie milestone!
Movie #98: LƩon The Professional
Alas, a movie I really enjoy made by a guy who may not find the creepiness in the story to actually be creepy š¬
Movie #100: The Substance
Hell yeah, I love when the 100th movie is an absolute banger āØ
Movie #101: Alien: Romulus
It feels good to just plain like an Alien move again š
@matt Maybe I need a rewatch.
I remember it feeling father daughter to me.
Also one of the all time Oldman performances. Stansfield is just unhinged.
@ravi Yeah Oldman is great and the rest of the cast kills it.
Apparently Besson dated a 15 year old in his 30s and this story is inspired by their relationship. She had their baby at 16 š¬ Maybe itās not as big a deal in French culture, but itās hard not to think about with how Natalie Portman is portrayed in some moments.
@tchaten What did you love about it? In curious!
FWIW everyone seems to think ādecentā means I hated the movie with the heat of 1,000 suns šš āHowād you like that movie?ā āIt was decent! Didnāt love it, didnāt dislike it, it was decent.ā
@Ronnie @tchaten Thatās definitely my intent with the rating. Like if someone asked me if they should watch a movie, something I said is ādecentā would get a āgo for itā from me.
But this has been a challenge for me for years lol. This score was called āokayā for a long time and that gave a negative impression as well. Maybe itās because itās on the left side of the list and therefore is on the ābadā side?
Scoring systems are hard š
@matt The cool thing about the Matrix movies that each are different genress: The Matrix - Sci-fi action thriller Reloaded - Sci-fi action superhero(?) movie Revolutions - Sci-fi war movie Ressurections - Sci-fi romantic comedy (thatās both romantic and a comedy).
Ressurections genre change is more abrupt than the others (itās not really action anymore), but I really love that one too. Theyāre my favourite movie series of all time.
@torb For sure! I think all 3 sequels are better than many give them credit for, and the ideas in each are brilliant, I just don't think they ever reached the heights of ideas + execution that they nailed in the first.
But I totally love the series too!
@matt Itās like you hate me or something.
I actually agree with your rating, you just used a dirty word in it. š
@tchaten Might be the first Iāve enjoyed at all š
Havenāt seen Coda, but yeah, finally!
