A24's first release wasn't great…

If I know anything about doing these reviews, giving an 80s movie an "okay" score is going to go over poorly 😛

Movie #40: Madame Web

Reminder that I don’t believe in “I know it’s a bad movie but…”

I had fun, but I totally see why if it doesn’t click, you’re gonna hate it.

Quick Reviews

Movie #56: Abigail
Movie #57: Presumed Innocent
@matt Haha this description sounds more positive than the ranking, but know there isn’t a space for one between the two lol
@matt new scale recommendation … so bad I loved it lol
@tchaten That’s a “loved it!” my friend! No such thing as guilty pleasures 🤘
@matt you need to take another point off for them wasting the title on the third movie instead of Bad Boys 4 Life
@matt Big Hero 6 is absolutely great, starting with San Frantokyo, going through the nanobots, and the whole gang, and ending with B-Max…
@matt one of my favs. Giant monster fighting giant robots!
@kanec It’s hard not to love ❤️
@matt This is a movie you take someone to in order to determine if they’re one of your people. I mean giant robots and kaiju — and Idris Elba — who doesn’t love this movie??? So great.
@AnthonyBaker Don’t trust anyone who hates this movie, that’s what I say.
@matt Totally agree. They are, however, allowed to hate its sequel.
@AnthonyBaker I haven’t dared watch the second one yet. Is it worth it or just too bad?
@matt Don’t watch. It’ll ruin the perfection that the first is. Second was a money grab and poorly done.
@matt Also, one of the best stereoscopic work to watch in 3D.
@matt The tv show on Amazon released earlier this year is an enjoyable watch.
@sinky It was! They didn't really stick the landing on the season end IMO, but I had a lot of fun with that one overall.
@matt Yes, i’d agree about the finale.
I still enjoyed the season enough to watch a 2nd if it’s ever announced.
@matt so glad you loved it - had all the feels too - incredible
@matt I was bummed - no Pixar shorts anymore ?

@tchaten I forgot they did those 🫣

I know they have a ton of new ones on Disney+ if you need to get a fix!

@matt good to know! Remember the lava one getting me all emotional when that one dropped
@matt very excited to watch tonight for the first time!
@tchaten I think you’ll dig it!
@matt you were right - incredible time with this one - maybe my first Japanese Godzilla movie embarrassingly
@matt Very weird after all the Monarch movies to have Godzilla not be the savior of mankind from the other monsters lol
@tchaten haha, yeah this my sort of Godzilla 😂 I just don’t connect with the “awww, poor Godzilla” parts. No, destroy him 🫣
@tchaten I can not recommned Shin Godzilla enough as well. It came out a few years ago and is different, but totally stunning in its own way.
@matt agree, really enjoyed this one
@matt And yet, an undeserved fx Oscar (unless the true reward was the best budget/results fx in a movie).

@ideimos Who would you have given the award to?

Not disagreeing, as the effects had some lower technical quality bits, but artistically I thought it was great.

@matt Yeah, shot design was great and I will add also the editing, which uses long shots with little to no camera shake which made fx more enjoyable. Good film tho.

I think The Creator (more grounded look) or Guardians of the Galaxy (superb in his own style) deserved the win.

@ideimos True, I didn’t love The Creator overall, but the effects were stunning, and the way they did them was super innovative.
@matt this could be improved with some padding.😄
@matt saw it last week, loved it! Started reading up on Japanese overacting afterwards. 😅
