I must not reply. Replying is the mind-killer. Replying is the little-death that brings total obliteration.

I will face the bad take. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the take has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

(this is a note to self. I am not good at it)
Also, I didn't make this one up, I pinched it from someone at some point

Wtf. I tried to find the original, to edit my post to quote them, and instead found my own toot shared on FB...

Or maybe I got the idea from a screenshot of https://www.threads.net/@palapid/post/C0c2aRJxQTc ?

Yeah, I think this was probably a "standing on the shoulders of giants" situation rather than a "pinched outright" situation.
No, I'm wrong. Apparently I *did* pinch it from someone, and expanded it. I know because I found this old image while rummaging through my phone.

*boosts this post instead of yelling at someone for having a fucking stupid opinion*

@Hyperlynx

It is by caffeine alone that I move my mind. The beans of Java produce the shaking, the shaking stirs the waking, the waking simulates thought.

@Hyperlynx
I am not worthy πŸ˜‚

@punishmenthurts nor am I.

I posted this after replying in anger to a bad take, then deleting it, then replying something else, then deleting it.

@Hyperlynx
gawd. ❀️
.
I've been trying to find the text, I wrote a thing off of "A Boy Named Sue," called A Boy Named Reply Guy about myself, it was kind of fun, but I can't find it.
In my bookmarks somewhere is me singing it, but . . . πŸ™„
@punishmenthurts ...I've just got your username. Brilliant!
@Hyperlynx
without actually meaning anything, that's the real secret πŸ˜€
@Hyperlynx The internet would be so much better if everyone followed this philosophy.

@Hyperlynx

I try to ask myself, What problem will this solve? (If I reply)

But I also have dubious impulse control.

@jamesbritt @Hyperlynx I'll type out the reply just to vent, re-read it, then realise I don't want to get into an argument and just delete it. Releases a bit of steam without the descent into chaos.
@Hyperlynx Me @ anglos tooting about the EU.
@Hyperlynx agreed. My solution so far is to mention it's a bad take (including a reason) and then muting the conversation. If people are truly interested in learning, they will do their research after. Most people unfortunately aren't.

@Hyperlynx Fantastic. I posted something in this vein a while back, and it has been useful mantra:

I must not be cynical. Cynicism is the soul-killer. Cynicism is the little-death that brings total hopelessness. I will face my cynicism. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past, I will turn the inner eye to see its root. From where the cynicism has arisen, there will be sorrow. Only empathy will remain.

@Hyperlynx

I just block. It feels really good.

@Hyperlynx

Bookmarked (so I can forget more efficiently).

@Hyperlynx but without replies, there is no chance for conversation. A is left is a bunch of headlines and memes,competing for boosts and likes.

@Hyperlynx

Suggested additional paragraph to the Mastodon Litany:

I must not reply. Replying is the mind-killer. Replying is the little-death that brings total obliteration.

I will face the bad take. I will permit it to pass over me and through me.

And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.

When the take has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

For I will have muted or blocked the stupid arsehole and thus not bothered my instance moderators or otherwise sought to weaponise moderation

πŸ˜‡

@Hyperlynx Mute/block. Move on. It's your timeline, fill it with stuff that makes you happy.

@Hyperlynx

It is by takes alone I set my mind in motion,
It is by the fury of replies that thoughts acquire speed,
the eyes acquire squint,
the squint becomes a warning.
It is by takes alone I set my mind in motion.

@Hyperlynx Okay I'm stealing this. (with credit of course) but its AWESOME.
