Space Weather

The Space Weather Ops dashboard has this morning been updated with numerous "under the hood" tweaks and fixes.

Major overhauls include improving the DRAP map visuals and improvements to the event log and voice alerts system.

A fault in the GOES 18/19 fall-over system has hopefully been corrected.

Your UEFI firmware can inject a PE binary into Windows on every boot via WPBT (Windows Platform Binary Table). smss.exe extracts it to disk and runs it as SYSTEM. OEMs use this to survive OS reinstalls. Attackers use it the same way.

One registry key tells Windows to ignore the table entirely:

reg add "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager" /v DisableWpbtExecution /d 1 /t REG_DWORD /f

Won't stop real firmware implants, but kills a whole class of cheap persistence for free.

If you are in the UK (and possibly many other countries) you might want to start stocking up on non-perishable food and other long shelf life stable items.

Two weeks minimum, for everyone in your household, would be a sensible starting point. If you have the means to do so then more supplies might be better than less.

If you have items already in stock then check their expiry dates as soon as you are able and replace what's most important first.

Check any prescription medications to ensure you have enough on hand.
