lmaoooooo (not laughing)
@m0xee @davidgerard
I have one, a corporate machine for work. I also have better laptops, both in hardware and OS terms, so the crappy corp build gets booted exactly once every three months.
(Guess how long the password reset period is?)
Try Devuan.
It's Debian without systemd.
Poettering, who pushed for systemd, now works for MS.
If Copilot was any good, they wouldn't need to force people to install it.
we're gonna benchmark our computers with the fps we get in the notes app
@davidgerard I had to switch to Mac because I needed Logic Pro. I've second-guessed that decision from time to time, but at this point even with Apple being control freaks, it's still easier to get a Mac to do the things I want with how much garbage Microsoft is forcing on people.
I would go whole hog and switch to Linux, but unfortunately I need some software that won't run on it
@davidgerard @mlabowicz @reillypascal
What do they need MS Office for, if you don't mind the question?
EDIT: No suggestions incoming, just wondering what schools are demanding these days.
@caffetiel @mlabowicz @reillypascal yeah, school, the ICT course goes from Python coding to extreme O365 and is very specific on the full version of O365. but yes even the teacher recommends LO for real work lol
trouble is O365 seems to be the sticking point cos it doesn't run in Wine well enough
@ShadSterling @smhs honestly just start somewhere. Mint is probably inoffensive. or just plain Ubuntu or Xubuntu.
most run off a USB stick so you can try out desktops and see if any particularly appeal or annoy.
a usb stick is also useful cos you can check it supports all your hardware. linux hardware support is extremely good these days, but it's always nice to check.
@davidgerard Far from the worst part, but this is ridiculous:
'Copilot also doesn’t require many PC resources, with the app just needing 4 GB of RAM and a 720p display.'
I've never heard of an app needing that much RAM.
I only use my desktop for gaming, it’s on windows 10. I am now determined to switch to Linux…..can anyone recommend best version for gaming on a Ryzen 5 build? Will be building a new rig at some point when I can afford it but for now this will have to do 😭
Thats great thanks, will check it out :)
@JaxVent @davidgerard I think Steam used to use Ubuntu as its basis for Proton, the emulation layer it uses.
So you'll probably have good results with Ubuntu, or Debian (which Ubuntu is based on), or Linux Mint. Personally I use Debian, and most games I try on Steam work fine on it.
But most of the "user friendly" Linux distros are used a lot by gamers, so probably any popular Linux distro would be fine.
@davidgerard But it's obvious that it's more useful to them and CIA than to the users, otherwise they wouldn't force you to install it, because if I decide that I don't need it, why do I have to install?
it's part of that ongoing hybrid war, in China it's still the most used OS today, the problem is that I don't understand why companies that use Windows for work don't rebel.
But this period will also end, like others.
@davidgerard
