If IBM decides to merge Terraform and Ansible, would that be Terrible?
@geerlingguy It should be! But it will probably be Ansiform 🙄
@notroot @geerlingguy what you said? ANSI Forum? ;-)
@geerlingguy I wonder if they consider renaming Ansible to EBCDICble?
@qlp ASCII what you did there
@geerlingguy To be fair Hasicorp has already done enough to tarnish themselves. I'm sure IBM can 1+ that *easily*!

@rfc2549 @geerlingguy We also had a namesaked repo at work, it combined #Ansible and #Terraform (and #LXD; now #incus) to deploy test clusters for our main product. It hit a wall when distributed LXD didn't allow us to mess with the DNS server (#dnsmasq on single host deployments) anymore :(((
@geerlingguy probably in a "now there's three competing standards" kinda way 😄
@geerlingguy Seen this in reality already. Ansible templates generating terraform code .. Terrible is a sound description

@Comradin @geerlingguy You get that with a language not supporting any control structures.

I generate provider definitions. But at least you can have Terraform code in JSON form.

@geerlingguy why not? As long as we have #OpenTofu and #Nix, I don’t care too much.
@geerlingguy remember when adobe acquired macromedia, and merged illustrator and freehand into
frustrator?
@geerlingguy good one. Seriously though, IBM owning both Ansible and Terraform seems like a problem. I’ve contacted my local competition authority, will you consider contacting yours?
@geerlingguy That is _already_ its compound name.
@geerlingguy Dad Joke of the year ... and I feel like it would be ... Terrible.
@geerlingguy As a former IBM employee, yes.
@geerlingguy Jeff. Come on. (Actually that just made me snort tea out of my nose)
@geerlingguy it’s probably already terrible enough, but…
@geerlingguy I love it when a plan comes together!
@geerlingguy as someone who reads a lot of sci-fi and does not work with IT, I'm surprised and disappointed IBM used these names for its products
@geerlingguy ansible with native wrappers around terraform providers would cool as fuck
@geerlingguy pretty sure ansiform is a competitor to whitworth/bsf
@geerlingguy It wouldn't be Terrible, if there was an ANSI form …
@geerlingguy
Jupp, it's the so called terrible stack.
@geerlingguy That was... horrible and painful... well played, Sir, well played! *reaches for the headache pills*

@geerlingguy How would that work? Ansible is procedural and intended for configuration managment. Terraform is declarative intended for orchestration. While you _can_ run scripts, it's not it's Raison d'être. I tried using just Terraform to do both. It wasn't fun.

If they do, they should call the hybrid product Colonoscopy.

@geerlingguy It already is, but then it would be called that too
@geerlingguy If they only used Stackoverflow for documentation, would that be SO Terrible?

@geerlingguy

Well seems like i somehow predicted the future 👀
