I’ve been programming for way too long. Is it still meant to be this much fun? Rubyist since 2006, working for Resource Guru.
So who do I know that I’m going to see at Rails World?

Just putting this out there… I’m currently working on a site to teach programming for and on vintage computers and consoles.

I’m going to do it anyway, because it’s fascinating to me and I’ve wanted to do it for ages… but is this something anyone else wants to see?

Initial target systems:
- ZX Spectrum
- Commodore 64
- Amstrad CPC
- BBC Micro
- MSX1

I plan to add way more over time, including the Amiga, Atari ST and some consoles from both generations. One step at a time.

Hey, hi. If, due to *gestures at everything*, you happen to be looking for a story that fully accepts that people are gonna people and that the fight against the darkness/fascism/... is never over, but that nevertheless never turns bleak and never wavers in its belief that we can, in fact, through collaboration, love, and yes, sacrifice, create things (ideas, alliances,...) that can withstand our worst impulses and endure, have I got a recommendation for you.

Donald Knuth on the rewards of computer programming
In the future, we won't need programmers, just people who can describe to a computer precisely what they want it to do.
We're destroying the planet for a fancy autocomplete to satisfy stockholders

I made a useful (+ cool?) thing in celebration of our community.

There will likely be bugs in the data (and the app) but I'd love to hear what you think of it. And if you see errors or your company is missing feel free to submit corrections.

I put together a slide deck based on my experiences at #Euruko2024. I’m quite happy with it. https://speakerdeck.com/stevehill/euruko-2024-at-sarajevo

I added a few more heroes to the collection. José Valim, creator of Elixir, and Dave Thomas, industry legend and author of the original Ruby Pickaxe book.
