The pornocalypse comes for us all, yeah?
Well, yesterday, in case you missed it, it came for the furries on Fansly:

A large, fuzzy object. Coder, cacher, baker, pianist. Contents may have settled. Pronouns: Han/Honom.
Profile pic: a "Lizard man" in a bulbous space helmet is cheerily waving at the viewer. The picture is rendered in simple style, and framed in a hexagon, reminiscent of those NFT pfps that were all the rage once.

It seems after 10 years of previously serious and respected people saying the cloud is the future and that I’m a dinosaur for telling them it’ll be back on prem before the end of the next decade, I was right.
It WAS more expensive.
It WAS less performant.
It WAS less secure.
It WAS a gateway to increasingly more exploitative pricing models.
A lesson in getting carried away with the hype and not looking at the actual trends. This was always going to happen. Threats increasing, and compute, storage, and bandwidth costs reducing faster than your upgrade cycle.
If you ever think English is not a weird language just remember that read and lead rhyme and read and lead rhyme.
But read and lead don't rhyme, and neither do read and lead.
@futurebird I'm using (relatively) normal hardware, BUT...
The laptop (Panasonic Toughbook) on my desk is just an X-terminal. Firefox is actually running on my server, which is in a Connection Machine cabinet that I'm using as a 19" rack. (The Connection Machine is a legendary supercomputer from the 80s. They only made 30 of them. One is currently at MOMA, one is at the Smithsonian, etc., etc.)
So... normal server, sitting in what is perhaps the coolest 19" rack ever made. (The CM was, sadly, empty when i got it.)
Edit: I posted this back in 2023 originally, but I thought we could all use a shot of niceness in this, our universe of fear and anger.
Feeling Boo-tee-full. Endearing and wonderful art from Nick Maskell. (Edit to add link to Nick's site: https://www.nickmaskell.com/ )

Bigots and their law can't stand a chance against this badass woman
> she protested the new policies by wearing a men’s swimsuit, leaving her topless. She has been told by Swim England that if she continues while competing, it is up to the referee to disqualify her. "They confirmed that I need to wear a female swimming costume"
