Bravo to this pet store. So many bunnies end up being sent to the Humane Society after a few months.
@MeanwhileinCanada You do know rabbits make good eating, right?

@mikemccaffrey @flyhigh @MeanwhileinCanada

Completely beside the point, but apparently humans taste the same as pigs. You have to be quite the connoisseur to choose humans knowing the headhunt the population will end up executing once the vanishes become a trend. And you can't even talk to people how you're ready to go the distance (and the effort! And the cost!) just to get the "real deal".

There's ofc free-range. But I'm sure you can invest in a farm or something and still come up ahead.

@flyhigh @MeanwhileinCanada rabbit meat is very healthy too, it's full of proteins and very little fat
@flyhigh @MeanwhileinCanada
They are also a more sustainable meat source than cows, and their manure is ready to go fertilizer, no extra processing required, I honestly don't know why we don't eat more rabbit.
@MeanwhileinCanada When I was a child, giving children bunnies and chicks (baby chickens, Internet) as gifts for Easter was common, and rarely ended well. A terrible practice.
@Nmyownworld @MeanwhileinCanada my aunt once won two ducklings at a fair!!! 😳
@MeanwhileinCanada Pet stores shouldn't exist to begin with. Do you not know how inhumane the breeding industry is? We breed animals for humans' selfish desires, split them from their families and put them in cages until maybe someone buys them like an object. If it were human children, would that be ok? If not, what is so different with non-human animals?
#AnimalRights
@Azarilh @MeanwhileinCanada It's difficult for pet stores to make money without cutting corners in unethical ways. They shouldn't exist if they can't do so ethically. Nothing that leads to puppy mills and the like should be considered okay.
@rora_borealis @MeanwhileinCanada I don't think it's possible to do it ethically, tho i understand what you mean.
The sole idea of breeding someone for profit is disgusting. Of course that would lead to even worse practices.
@Azarilh @rora_borealis @MeanwhileinCanada What? Are you trying to justify this nasty practice
@ZillaMon You meant replying to Rora? /gen
@ZillaMon @Azarilh @MeanwhileinCanada I don't see anyone justifying it in this convo
@rora_borealis @ZillaMon @MeanwhileinCanada Ye i dunno. I thought they misunderstood what you said.

@rora_borealis @Azarilh @MeanwhileinCanada

Nothing ethical about pet stores. I managed a store of a large chain in the US right after high school and realized how evil the industry is.

@Azarilh @MeanwhileinCanada Cats naturally leave their mother, then get territorial against each other. My cats would have access to their mother and could have play dates if they were like dogs, but it would just cause them more stress. This is incredibly over simplistic and varies from species to species. There are TONS of issues with pet shops, most pet shops i have been to now focus on helping rescues find a home.
90% of all zoos should be shut down 10% actually do more good than harm and weigh a lot of ethical factors. Pet stores that breed new cats and dogs shouldn't exist, we have more than enough rescues that need a home and pure breeds are riddled with genetic issues. Pure breeds should not exist unless you are say, a farmer that needs them to do a specific job
@anubis2814 Yes, i know i over simplified, the point stands tho.
@MeanwhileinCanada This is what happens when animals are treated as property. I know this person is well-meaning, and I absolutely support this effort, but this notion that other living beings can be owned (and potentially discarded on a whim or after their 'usefulness' ends) is much deeper than this person would like to admit.

@MeanwhileinCanada @bynkii

I did the chick thing decades back. I kept the rooster for several months before weather or the predator food chain got him, but it probably wasn’t the best shelter nor protection.

@MeanwhileinCanada wtf? I've never heard of this before. Who buys bunnies for Easter FFS!?
@MeanwhileinCanada should do the same with dogs at Christmas time
@MeanwhileinCanada What am I supposed to feed my python?
@jonahstein @MeanwhileinCanada
Mice, rats, live chickens.
@5klp471 @MeanwhileinCanada Pythons love chickens but easter bunnies are tasty. And cheap. So many families advertising "free to good home".
@MeanwhileinCanada give people a chance to think it over and plan for it.
@MeanwhileinCanada Thhhat's all folks.
Nice one tho.
@MeanwhileinCanada Queensland law is even more strict: no bunnies as pets -- they are illegal to keep without a permit. Permits are only issued to performing magicians.

@MeanwhileinCanada Some possibly took 'adopt than shopping', quite different, as not everything have to be something physical (neither or zoo or circus), but can be hobbies as planting seeds for birds, greens for insects, flowers for valentines day or wreaths for pre-christmas

new year's eve seems more quiet for pets&wildlife if more tend to chill than being noisy, right?
