@Daniel_Keppler @dgar Well I see you’re not a woman worried about having your data shared with cops in a red state who can bust you for having an abortion, mister. This is something you have to be concerned about with American social media platforms.
Do you have a security clearance? If not you probably don’t have to worry about the CCP whether you use TikTok or not, you’re not that important. I know that’s disappointing to you.
@Okanogen @Daniel_Keppler @dgar Force a sale to Steve Mnuchin (this is not a joke, he’s been trying to wrangle investors) or, failing that, ban it.
Actually 90 days is too short to secure a deal, so yes, this bill would ban it.
You could explain it to the young folks who are upset and tell them they are being deluded and they’d say “that’s better *how*?” They’d be right.
@Okanogen @Daniel_Keppler @dgar Unlike the American ones they won’t sell their users’ data to data brokers who will then sell it to cops in red states who will use it to track down women visiting abortion clinics.
Which is why Steve Mnuchin wants to buy TikTok.
(That and/or to do what Elon Musk did to Twitter.)
@Okanogen @Daniel_Keppler @dgar No, because that’s why American domestic intelligence agencies don’t like them in spite of the fact that (by their own admission) they have no evidence of TikTok actually being used to spy on Americans.
American intelligence and law enforcement agencies buy our data from data brokers to do surveillance on us without technically violating the 4th Amendment.

@Okanogen @Daniel_Keppler @dgar However, TikTok does not do business with these data brokers so DHS, the NSA, etc. don’t have access to that data. It’s a huge blind spot for them with a sensitive population (young people). So they really want TikTok to be either banned or sold to some American owner who will work with data brokers.

@Okanogen @Daniel_Keppler @dgar No. They have no such evidence.
