Heck yeah baby!

check out the #prius C scan all finished. It actually worked better than I would have imagined. Thank god for the #seattle #overcast #weather. Its great for #photogrammetry. Now I can toss this into #freecad, #NX or #solidworks and get my #battery #design going

@werefreeatlast What software did you use?

@bbt I took photos with a canon 6D which is like 10 years old now. Then I used #alicevision #meshroom https://alicevision.org/

It's free and opensource. I then imported it to #Blender to cut out the bad sections. From there I used #NX to design but I've also used #freeCAD before for that.

AliceVision | Photogrammetric Computer Vision Framework

AliceVision is a Photogrammetric Computer Vision framework for 3D Reconstruction and Camera Tracking.

@werefreeatlast ah nice, meshroom! I actually know and used that one already. I only tried using it for scanning a person, which didn't go well. I never thought about using it like you did.
How well did the scaling go? Or how did you scale it?
@bbt I took pencil and paper notes on several recognizable measurements to scale the mesh in #blender. In blender the first thing I do is try to orient the model with respect to the axes so that I can align to the axes on my #CAD program. I have used #meshroom also to scan #IEMs in ear audio monitors. I actually made copies for music listening and just as #ppe ear protection which I use when using power tools. Once you got dimensions just compare in CAD and scale in blender. Then re-import.
