Night-time helicopter flight with The Icelandic Coast Guard gathering info and estimating the extent of the lava field in the early phase of this eruption.
@RagnarHeidar are these first bright spots eruptive sites as well, or some turbulence within the lava flow? They seem quite far from the main fissure. Or by now lava-drowned part of the fissure?
@RagnarHeidar as long as no animals or people are in danger, THAT is a stunning view!
@RagnarHeidar Lovely nighttime cabin light they are having in that helicopter. Oh no, wait, that's not the cabin light 😆
@RagnarHeidar nature is amazing and scary at the same time 😳
@RagnarHeidar "One does not simply walk into Mordor"
@RagnarHeidar looks like "Los Angeles Metro Complex - Year 2039" from a 1990s movie 😬
@RagnarHeidar I've heard about the crack in everything that's where the light gets in. So, here it is.

@RagnarHeidar

Nature's Christmas Lights!!! 😱 ❤️

@RagnarHeidar

That's a lot of lava! Imagine the total energy in that field, just radiating away.

Also a little disturbing if I were in that helicopter. We've got plenty of fuel, right?

@RagnarHeidar I thought it was LA in the 80s
@RagnarHeidar what's this, hanging from the ceiling, in the beginning of the video?
@lffontenelle these are harness attachment points in ceiling for looking people looking out the door. Yes, it’s open
@RagnarHeidar It almost looks like the night view of a city at 35-thousand feet.
@RagnarHeidar oh god the earth just crackled open EVERYWHERE
Live from Mustafar.

@RagnarHeidar Initial thought on seeing thumbnail: “That’s an odd pattern for night-friendly red lighting in that helicopter.”

Nope - that’s light from the lava/fires they’re flying over.

O.o

@RagnarHeidar Early phase?

Looks like almost over already :)

@RagnarHeidar Awesome video. We often forget the tremendous energy beneath our feet.
@RagnarHeidar One hopes one need not attempt an emergency landing in the vicinity.
@Ragnar Heiðar Þrastarson Well, it seems over for now. Grindavik's residents are still sorta fucked. Damn.
