Two important Threads updates 🔔🔔

First, Threads is expanding to more countries across Europe, so people there can follow and join the conversations they care about. We’re starting to roll out in more countries now on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store; www.threads.net is live everywhere now.
Second, threads posted by me and a few members of the Threads team will be available on other fediverse platforms like Mastodon starting this week. This test is a small but meaningful step towards making Threads interoperable with other apps using ActivityPub – we’re committed to doing this so that people can find community and engage with the content most relevant to them, no matter what app they use.
I know progress has been slower on this front, but we’re taking the time to get this right and working with folks in the fediverse community for feedback and input along the way. Looking forward to sharing more soon.
@mosseri well, hi and welcome from Mastodon, not sure if this reply will get back to you but at least I can read your post from here, quite a breakthrough 🤩
@loehwe @[email protected] I can't see replies or respond to them yet from the Threads app, hence this extra account. That's coming though
@mosseri @loehwe @[email protected] The obvious thing that the Threads/AP NewPlace can bring is Translation! To bring the world closer together!! Hope we can see that sometime in the future 😊
@mosseri @loehwe @[email protected] yeah I had to just go ahead and check the discussion from both apps: https://www.threads.net/@mosseri/post/C046M4EvCgU/?igshid=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==
@mosseri @loehwe @[email protected] the Threads and Mastodon apps bounce back and forth between each other pretty well :)
@mosseri Thanks for doing this work!

@mosseri I hope Meta gets smashed as it has made the world a worse place.

Also we need to expropriate @[email protected] and all the other billionaire assholes.

That’s my feedback ✌️

@user8e8f87c cool. Don’t use it if you don’t want to. Personally I think it’s anonymous accounts by people called “user8e8f87c” that cause the most problems on most of the platforms. It’s really easy to sling mud when you don’t need to attach yourself to your words. I’ll judge thread users based on that, not on the platform they’re using
@mosseri very cool. Looking forward to interacting with people on either platform as functionality becomes available.
@mosseri Greetings from a mastodon instance. Let's see how this works.
@mosseri Sending a response from Mastodon ✋🏾
@mosseri wow I’m responding to a Threads post y’all
@mosseri Glad to see you narrating your choices and intentions — you are facing a significant gulf of trust here in the #fediverse.
@haubles @[email protected] I understand that. All we can do is put one foot in front of the other, explain what we're doing, and then do it. Trust takes a lot of time to earn, and can be lost in an instant.
@mosseri @haubles @[email protected] weird side issue - clicking on the threads.net account name in a Mastodon official mobile app switches me to my installed Threads app instead of allowing me to follow the user from the Mastodon account ;)

@mosseri

After the outright lies and blatant abuses of privacy, going back to the beginnings of FB / Insta - let's review

1. Cambridge Analytica. You aren't on the side of the Good Guys
2. Deceptive data sharing practices.
3. Shadow profiles
4. Facial Recognition
5. Many different data breaches.

And now, you are developing some bridge ( which you will not expose ) - yeah right. I do not trust anything you do.

@tuban_muzuru @mosseri so what's your point exactly? No one forces you to sign-up to threads, even better now you won't have to if you want to interact with threads users.

Kind of like not having to register to an aol account to email aol users... Did anyone ever complain they could communicate with (@)aol(.)com ?

I for one never wanted Twitter or Facebook accounts, so I'm glad to be able to reach more people.

@dermoth @mosseri

I made five points. Address them. FB is an unhealthy ecosystem.

@mosseri excited to see how this will work out 👀
@mosseri so excited that you’re doing this!!
@mosseri Do you receive replies or likes in Threads? Not yet? Your posts are nicely appearing on my server!
@mosseri I'm curious to see what happens if I reply here.
@mosseri find threads here. Read news articles
@mosseri attempting a reply from Mastodon- this is exciting, thank you for moving so purposefully on this!
@mosseri here's my input: I'm blocking your server

@mosseri can't wait to see this message appear directly on Threads!

Interoperability always wins.

@mosseri What happens with replies?
@devlord @mosseri I can see this on Mastodon - guessing it won't be on Threads
@ezekiel @devlord @mosseri yeah was thinking the same - eventually replies will federate too, but at the moment i suspect it's one way
@mosseri Huge! Can’t wait to one day follow Mastodon users on threads.net (hopefully!!!!)
@calstephens interesting. Mind if I ask why you would want to go back to corporate social media with all of the ads, data harvesting and whatnot?
@User47 @calstephens corporate pigeon. He's a threads guy that only set up an account here to cheerlead the federation
@mosseri future reader, please like this answer once it shows up on Threads (presumably sometimes next year)
@mosseri can't wait for the full rollout :LETSGO:
@mosseri Keep at it. Here’s some motivation
@mosseri So if I reply to this, does it show up on Threads or just Mastodon?
@willoremus Just checked on Threads, and it does not appear there. Also, Threads users' replies to his posts don't federate either, which I suppose makes sense at this stage
@willoremus @mosseri He says in the video they'll eventually support showing replies in Threads natively.
@willoremus Just Mastodon at the moment. In this phase the few posts that are being federated are essentially read-only.
@mosseri Replying to see whether this response will appear on Threads (presumably not, at least not now).
@vambenepe @mosseri Let us know! My reading of the announcement was that the integration was (so far) one way.
@mosseri that's so cool, hopefully it won't take too much time!
@mosseri Nice. Replying from Mastodon 😊
@mosseri Saw this before the post it follows fwiw, but so happy this is happening!
@mosseri Welcome to the fediverse! 👏
@mosseri Cool, this will accomplish the impossible, getting my family onto a twitter-like social media site/network that I'm on too.
