Some highlights from first 2 weeks of our Online Trust & Safety J-term course at Middlebury College:
- Students voted 9-0: keep Section 230.
- Students voted 2-7 against: platforms should label all "likely manipulated media" (per Meta Oversight Board case 2025-019-FB-UA - https://www.oversightboard.com/decision/fb-bu05syro/&sa=D&source=docs&ust=1768934921213728&usg=AOvVaw0dPHmIYIusg4FZnrDgWsO0)
- All students but 1 were fired from their first Moderator Mayhem jobs! https://moderatormayhem.engine.is/ - they really internalized Masnick's Impossibility Theorem. @mmasnick.bsky.social

Does this appear on my Pixelfed feed? @[email protected]
@Casey @pj @kevin So, how do we get more normies (like me) on Threads to enable fediverse sharing; and on Bsky to enable bridgy fed? Fediverse is so promising but it needs some of the frictionless UX instincts of our Web 2.0 platformer owners in order to compete on the Network Effects front, I think.
Inspired by @Casey great coverage of Claude and Claude Code, and this week's story with @pj and @kevin about successes in the fediverse, I'm diving in more: I just did some account exporting and importing between Threads, Bsky (via bridgy fed), and Mastodon with some csv parsing/regex help from Claude. I'm now successfully seeing Threads and Bsky posts here on Mastodon from (many of the) accounts I've followed on those services.
I wrote some thoughts about the small elegance of blocking people on social media (it's the new hotness, did you hear?) https://integrityinstitute.org/blog/the-art-of-the-block

User controls are the next frontier in content moderation at scale, but only if we use them.

Now that Meta is implementing ActivityPub, I’m keen on fully moving to Mastodon and following Threads users here. But how do I do that? When I search for a threads username @ threads.net I get no results.

Is there a way to somehow collapse a “many-tooted” thread of longform writing on Mastodon? For instance: I’m a fan of @pluralistic’s writing, and usually read it in my email inbox. When it appears in thread format in my Mastodon feed, it’s a lot of scrolling to pass it by. I’m on the Mastodon iOS app.
