Deep thought for the day: Why do they call the little candy bars "fun size."

Isn't it more fun to get a big candy bar?

@Teri_Kanefield I suppose the term "annoying size" didn't do so well in the focus groups.
@Teri_Kanefield it definitely is. The bigger the better
@Teri_Kanefield They must’ve decided Fun is the opposite of King. Honestly so patriotic of them
@Teri_Kanefield It is all about quantity over quality. Very sad.
@Teri_Kanefield Bite size probably sounded too chintzy. But I have a Costco-size bag of fun-size candy, so I don't feel too bitter about it. (Especially since we are likely to get three treaters, tops.)

@Teri_Kanefield they’re “fun size” because they’re fun to hand out.

The big ones are a struggle to give away.

@Teri_Kanefield
A bigger markup for the manufacturers makes it 'fun'.
@Teri_Kanefield more fun for me when my kid doesn't over-do it on late night candy 😉🎃
@Teri_Kanefield the marketing guy was short

@Teri_Kanefield

Yes! Thank you! Words matter!!!!!

Especially when peanut butter is involved.

@Teri_Kanefield As my grandma used to say, "Don't pee in my wheaties and tell me it's milk". Full sized bars are the only real candy to be had on Halloween and those cheeky candy makers know it! Who do they think they're fooling with "fun"?
@Teri_Kanefield agree! nothing fun about tiny bars.
@Teri_Kanefield Fun size allows for full size then king size. Marketing!

@Teri_Kanefield

So they can charge more money for less candy and at the same time gaslight us all about it.

@Teri_Kanefield the fun part is moving the huge pile of wrappers to the trash after you have eaten 35 Fun things.
@Teri_Kanefield Its fun that you fell for the scam.
@Teri_Kanefield a chocolate conspiracy - first they want you to get hooked on the fun size before you develop a serious addiction to "family size" five dollar chocolate bars and start lying a lot, for example that your weight is only 215 lbs, and you were recently elected.
@Teri_Kanefield Standard marketing lie. Call it that what it isn't.
@Teri_Kanefield but the "Fun" is in sharing with others. 😉 It is easier to share when there are more albeit smaller candies.
@Teri_Kanefield maybe not, for the parents of the small child eating said candy bar
@Teri_Kanefield I think it's for the grownups. We can deceive ourselves by not really adding up how many little bars make one big one, so we can therefore have fun eating more than we should without cognatively registering what we're doing, or am I just over-thinking this because it's about chocolate?
@Teri_Kanefield
"fun size" is noted for the biggest of all available options!
@Teri_Kanefield They are small so they have to have something going for them. Being "fun" is a good attribute if you are small.
@Teri_Kanefield big version highly coveted. This neighborhood would necessitate serious investment. Hordes of trick or treaters…predictably run out despite heaps of treats. Broke out my private DOVE chocolate stash tonight … those ARE embarrassingly “fun” size 😝
@Teri_Kanefield It's fun for the marketers that get to keep their jobs and potentially become promoted depending on how they impact the shareholder's profits
Urban Dictionary: Funsized

Short, cute. Usually that girl mate of yours that comes to everyone's shoulders and everyone loves.

Urban Dictionary
@Teri_Kanefield fun to stuff as many as you can in your mouth in one go
@Teri_Kanefield the bigger candy bars get the less fun they are...
@Teri_Kanefield
I'm borderline diabetic. Peanut M&Ms are somewhat benign as candy goes. Less sugar than you'd think, and a chunk of protein to offset the sugar. A "fun-size" bag (about 5-6 candies) is perfect for me. Enough to quash those chocolate cravings, and just enough that I'm JUST getting overwhelmed by the sweetness on the last one. So, the "fun" is that I occasionally get to have them at all!
@Teri_Kanefield
Because it's harder to hide razor blades in them?
@Teri_Kanefield
Beginning to think that Hallow E'en was invented by Nestlé and Mondelez.
@Teri_Kanefield
This becomes clear when you realize that the added "fun" is entirely on the part of the manufacturer.
@Teri_Kanefield because it's fun to palm them.
@Teri_Kanefield
It's fun to get about 6 different kinds at once to munch on a variety, I've always given out multiple pieces of candy
@Teri_Kanefield Having eaten like 10 of them after trick-or-treating had ended, I can assure you that they are not “fun“ sized
I don’t even get hangovers from booze like I woke up with the next morning
@Teri_Kanefield They had to come up with a name that didn't refer to the size as "small" or "tiny" wouldn't sell, and everybody likes FUN, right?
