The pope is a media activist. "Pope Leo urged journalists on Monday to highlight the suffering caused by war, cautioning against news reports that risk sliding into propaganda by ‌glorifying conflicts or serving as "a megaphone" to amplify the voices of those in power" https://www.reuters.com/business/media-telecom/pope-leo-asks-media-show-suffering-war-not-amplify-propaganda-2026-03-16/

People who characterize DOGE as having failed in its mission startle me.

Of course, that mission wasn't what the thoroughly and repeatedly documented straight-faced liars said it was, so I suppose there's room for some naïve folks to think that.

The mission -- "destroy one of the most successful governments in the history of the world as much as possible as quickly as possible while creating maximum chaos and taking a profit" -- was a stunning success.

"When San Francisco officials installed #speedcameras at 33 roads and intersections last year, they said the goal was to nudge drivers to be more careful, not saddle them with tickets. In 2024, San Francisco authorities issued just over 26,000 traffic tickets. In 2025, that figure increased to 122,000" https://www.sfchronicle.com/sf/article/speed-camera-ticket-san-francisco-21347688.php

I’m on the board of directors of Cityside Journalism, non-profit parent company of the newsrooms Berkeleyside, The Oaklandside and Richmondside.

Enormously proud that two of our newsrooms have been ranked among the top 25 in the nation by Nieman Lab. Honestly I think it should be all three!

You’ll see some big national publications on the list. Oakland has a population of 440k and Berkeley of 120k. We’re peers with bigger newsrooms serving much larger audiences.

I despise how security updates are
bundled with feature updates.

Now we have to choose between risking getting malware from random criminal gangs when refusing to update, or getting embedded malware from the tech company itself that comes with their update.

And honestly at this point, I'm not sure which is worse.

At least the Gestapo would ask "Papiere bitte" before shooting you. So polite.
White folks in the U.S.: I encourage you to sit with the fact that this feeling you're feeling, that you could be gunned down by a cop for no reason without them facing any repercussions, is a feeling that every Black person living in the U.S. for the past 400 years has justifiably felt for their entire lives.
Resolve now that if we make it through with democracy intact, you will actively work toward a world where everyone can be free of that fear.
Don't forget.

I am doing my best to respond to this without a string of expletives. But let's be very clear: what just happened in Minnesota was cold blooded murder of a civilian by out of control federal agents, aided and abetted by the entire Trump administration and their fascist enablers.

Remind me—who else in history made lists of Jewish intellectuals and people with disabilities?
