#France called for a #HumanitarianCorridor into #Gaza that it said could lead to a #ceasefire. #Britain & #Germany both urged #Israel's military to show restraint & #Italy said it was important to avoid #escalation.

The #UnitedStates, Israel's closest #ally & a vital player in all past #peace efforts in the region, only sent its #Cairo charge d'affaires who didn’t address the meeting in public.

#EuropeanCouncil President #CharlesMichel said the main goal of the #CairoPeaceSummit was "to listen to each other". However, "we understand that we need to work…" on issues incl’g the #humanitarian situation, avoiding a regional #escalation & a Palestinian-Israeli #peace process….

The summit was meant to explore heading off a wider regional war.

#Arab states fear the offensive could drive #Gaza residents permanently from their homes & even into neighbouring states - as happened when #Palestinians fled or were forced from their homes in the 1948 war following Israel's creation.

Saturday AM, trucks loaded w/ #HumanitarianAid entered the #Rafah crossing into #Gaza. #Egypt had been trying for days to get #humanitarian relief…through the crossing, the 1 access pt not controlled by Israel.

While in the moment the decision is very painful for Palestinians, it's certainly right from Egypt to disallow Israel to outsource it's "problems" and to advance the colonialisation by it.
