Do you eat breakfast?

And by "breakfast", I mean the first meal of the day, and actual food (coffee, tea, and juice, don't count as food but smoothies do)

@dancinyogi I so cannot manage without breakfast. I feel so hungry I can’t concentrate
@dancinyogi if I don't eat it until around 11:00 am, but it IS the first meal of my day, does that count as "breakfast"?
@dancinyogi
A man’s gotta eat, ya know. Cereal with fruit.
@dancinyogi
Well, that's a silly question
If you eat, and the first eating of the day is breakfast, then no matter at what time you eat it, it's breakfast. Right?

@Uncleharvey @dancinyogi
I understand what you mean, but I think it's meant as "do you have breakfast or do you skip it and start with lunch." πŸ™‚

Unless I am in hospital I don't eat breakfast, I skip it and start with lunch. In the evening a dinner and thats it. I don't snack in between.

@catflyhigh @dancinyogi
As the first meal of the day, it's not skip-able, just delayed til latervin your day. πŸ€”πŸ˜
@Uncleharvey I know that, you know that, but there's always someone who says "if you eat at 2 am, is that breakfast?" that kind of question!
@dancinyogi
I would think that, if that's when they start their "day", then of course it is. If not, it's a late night snack. πŸ€”πŸ‘
@dancinyogi
Could you add
Depends on the day

@dancinyogi
I don't usually have anything but coffee until about 11:30 am.

If I'm going out for most of the day I may have a piece of toast. Food does not appeal to me in the morning.

@dancinyogi these days my breakfast is usually brown rice, steamed broccoli with butter, and maybe a sunny side up egg on top or some other protein leftover I may have. It's really yummy and very easy in the morning.
@dancinyogi Brown Rice Porridge, fruit and Plain Greek Yoghurt.
@dancinyogi I'm making eggs now, a little after 11am here in Honolulu. Sometimes it's well after noon. But it's almost always my first real meal of the day, so I answered Yes.
@dancinyogi Sometimes? Sometimes it's just a granola bar from the kitchen at work.
@dancinyogi weekends and holidays YES
weekdays/ work days NO

@dancinyogi My coffee contains oat milk - Therefore IMO, it's a cereal πŸ˜‰

(In all seriousness, I do actually have breakfast... and it's usually Whole Oats made with water, sprinkled with Blueberries and/or Banana) @purplepadma

@dancinyogi I mean, everyone does breakfast eventually, no?
@dancinyogi I answered "yes" but the true answer is "my roommate makes it every day but I only get it if I'm up when she does, so it depends on if our sleep schedules align"

still yes often enough though
@dancinyogi I eat breakfast in the morning but then go to sleep....when I wake up I only drink coffee.
@dancinyogi
For a long time, workweek breakfast was orange juice and yogurt. Nowadays I often steam five eggs at the beginning of the week, and have one per day. Mandarins are in season in the winter here, so that has become the Vitamin C replacement lately, but it's spring now so I'll have to transition to something else.
@dancinyogi Did not have a habit of eating breakfast for 20 years but after 2020 when I quit alcohol started eating it and now cannot start my day without.
@dancinyogi Can't function without it. Usually either cereal or toast

@dancinyogi Yes. Usually. Typically just a yogurt or nutrition/protein bar.

I have lately been waking up at around 5am (not really sure why) eating breakfast and going back to bed for a couple of hours. Does that really count as breakfast?

@dancinyogi

A roll, some iced coffee, and about a pound of raw vegetables, followed by a series of rounds of snacks and other gumgaws.

@dancinyogi Does coffee count as breakfast if you pair it with cigarettes and ibuprofen?
@dancinyogi If I don't have breakfast I'm grouchy til I eat. Every Saturday and Sunday it's coffee and leftovers. Weekdays it's just a burrito and no drink.
@dancinyogi I said no, because I don't eat until 11am or 12 most days. But it would probably be considered breakfast food.

@dancinyogi

Is it still breakfast if it's 6 to 12 hours after I get up? Because ADHD does that to me sometimes.

@dancinyogi

if i have to deal with lots of people on a day, yes. if left to myself then no, I don't need to eat until midday or even later.

@dancinyogi I don't typically get hungry until I've been awake for a few hours, by which point I'm either into my workday (very easy to do since I work from home) or out and about. I only eat food shortly after waking up if I'm particularly hungry (like day 2 of a 200 mile bike trip) or if I know the timing of when I'll be able to eat next is tight (... like day 1 of that same bike ride).
@dancinyogi trick question. First meal of the day for me is about 5 hours after I wake up, so yes I do have a breakfast...just not when most people think I should eat it.
@dancinyogi Only recently started, and just have a little breakfast bar. Sometimes on the weekend I'll cook breakfast.
@dancinyogi A clear question might be: do you eat a meal within 2 hours of starting your day? Or do you have a meal before your first work shift?
@dancinyogi strictly logically, yes, unless fasting..
@dancinyogi My dad eats breakfast every day, usually cereal, oatmeal, or yogurt with a piece of fruit. I just have wet Fancy Feast.
@dancinyogi I like a small breakfast and a regular lunch. I don't do dinner usually.
@dancinyogi Not on weekends, but my company has an excellent cafeteria staffed by lovely Mexican grandmas who know how to make wonderful breakfast burritos.
@dancinyogi I voted yes but it's really more "sometimes."
@dancinyogi yes but I'm trying to cut down to just coffee.
@dancinyogi If I don't eat a proper breakfast then I end up needing to eat lunch two hours earlier and that's just wildly inconvenient. I eat breakfast out of necessity to my schedule, not necessarily my health or diet.
@dancinyogi @lisamelton I do eat a first meal of the day. Not everyone’s day starts at some gross single-digit hour though.
@dancinyogi Oh god yes. Breakfast is one of my three favourite meals.
@dancinyogi I usually don't. Most of the time, I'm simply not that hungry in the first few hours after waking up.

@dancinyogi

Yes but usually around 4am as a middle of the night "woken up but need getting back to sleep" aid.

@dancinyogi I use an entire protein shake instead of creamer in a LARGE coffee mug. It's definitely breakfast
@dancinyogi A boiled egg, steel cut oats w/blueberries or maple syrup and cinnamon and half and half, and a cup of decaf. Or a boiled egg w/a pastry (or two) and a cup of decaf.

@dancinyogi

I'm confused. The way you stated the question if someone doesn't eat anything until lunch they do eat "breakfast", and only the people who "eat" a meal of only coffee, tea, or juice first don't. Was this what you intended?

@dancinyogi

Okay, but it’s unclear why a cup of joe and a small stale brownie I accidentally found in the fridge should count for more than a cup of joe alone.

@dancinyogi I used to not bother because I wasn’t hungry but now I know that I get terribly lethargic and am prone to terrible headaches if I don’t have some kind of adequate morning sustenance πŸ™ƒ
@dancinyogi wake, sup coffee, walk dogs, scoff 🍽 πŸ‘
@dancinyogi steel cut oats, blueberries, bananas, chia seeds and espresso. Every single morning
@dancinyogi if "first meal of the day" is breakfast, then by definition i eat breakfast every dayπŸ˜Žβ€‹

@dancinyogi always (by definition everyone who eats does) however in your context I have porridge most days and bread/toast on Sunday, with tea.

At 11am it's time for elevenses, usually a carrot or other vegetable, and more tea.

How can anyone skip breakfast? That's kind of strange...

@dancinyogi Not always in the morning because my sleep schedule is awful, but always breakfast, yes. It's my favorite meal and breakfast food is my favorite category of nourishment. Plus I have to have something to protect my stomach from the coffee.
