@cohanf thank you so much! Upon skimming iNat I think it's some kind of Sonchus, I'll see if I can get good pictures of a plant of the same kind.

@nev this time of year Sonchus is very likely- they are latish, several introduced species. But I don't remember what similar things were in Toronto... we have a native Hieracium -umbellatum-that is latish, but they finished early this year! and not so tall nor robust as Sonchus, tending to flop, probably less so if fully exposed.
