NOT NOW EARTHQUAKE WE ARE HAVING A HURRICANE WAIT YOUR GODDAMN TURN

[Pointing fiercely at wildfires, riots]: AND YOU! FUCK RIGHT OFF

@Popehat rockin and Rollin in SoCal
@Popehat Was it really an earthquake or did someone push the wrong warning button?
@judlew @Popehat
The one you would have heard about was real. Magnitude 5.1
7 km SE of Ojai, CA
2023-08-20 21:41:00 (UTC)34.409°N 119.188°W
4.8 km depth
@EugestShirley @Popehat So I’ve learned. We in the Eastern SFV felt nothing. We’ve been getting emergency alerts all day about floods though.
@judlew @Popehat
The shakemap from USGS.gov doesn't show much shake reaching your area. I didn't feel it either.
https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/ci39645386/map
@EugestShirley @Popehat It’s always so interesting how the waves travel. I have friends in Silver Lake who freaked out!

@Popehat

5.0, near Ojai (according to caltech)

@Popehat LOL just a little rocker

@Karoli @Popehat

That’s how the big ones begin. Plus, sometimes the aftershocks are bigger than the original quake.

@Aleggra @Karoli @Popehat

I think the official statistic is that 5% of quakes from M5–7 have bigger #quakes within the following two weeks.

@Popehat Interesting that you put riots in your list of natural disasters... But I guess that's L.A. for you...
@Popehat
When it rains, it pours. ;)

@Popehat

How about locusts? Are locusts okay?

@Popehat sorry you're dealing with all those things at once.

FYI: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2019/10/191015115401.htm

Strong storms generating earthquake-like seismic activity

Researcher have uncovered a new geophysical phenomenon where a hurricane or other strong storm can spark seismic events in the nearby ocean as strong as a 3.5 magnitude earthquake.

ScienceDaily
@danielharan @Popehat AND wildfires often are closely followed by vicious thunderstorms (which can cause more wildfires)!
@Popehat Coming soon to a SoCal near you! LOCUSTS! Because after a hurricane and then an earthquake, it should be expected.
@SassyCat @Popehat I heard the locusts are unavailable for SoCal due to a previous engagement in Florida.
@Popehat we used to call it the Shake & Bake state growing up. Now we can add Slip & Slide (flooding) to that
@Popehat
Socal is basically a kid getting bored with Sim City and clicking all the disasters at once.
@Popehat @jcutting Or God gave GrayStillPlays a controller and said "have fun with THIS sandbox for a couple days."
We're all doomed now.

ruining 90,001,673 lives with a category 1000 hurricane

@Popehat Oh yeah! Understandable.
@Popehat *touches earpiece* “Yeah, Smitty, hold the locusts, somebody downstairs jumped the gun.”
@Popehat fun fact. The weight of the water raining down and it’s migration into previously dry fractures in the earth is likely to trigger further small quakes.
@Popehat @karlkatzke Methinks we're witnessing the prequel to "Journey to the Center of the Earth" in real time. At least the ocean of the underworld part.
@Popehat I read an influx of amorous tarantulas was expected. Not a joke.
@Popehat waiting for the fourth horseman can be hard....
@Popehat
Lenny Bruce is not afraid.

@theogrin @Popehat

Really? No boosts or favorites for this?

@Popehat need another indictment, you are saying?
Monty Python & The Holy Grail - Bloody Weather

YouTube
@Popehat - you tell'em ,Ken! Give'em sh*t right back!!😎
@Popehat I blame it all on the Hollywood writer's strike.
@Popehat All that plot material bottled up with nowhere else to go!
@Popehat A plague of locusts is expected shortly.
@Popehat the earth is just trying to shake the water onto the fire.
@Popehat DO YOU REALLY THINK MOTHER NATURE IS GONNA CHILL?
@Popehat You also forgot the tornado that's waiting next in line.
@Popehat Mother nature is all out of fucks to give, I suspect
@Popehat If you're lucky the hurricane will take out the wildfires?
@Hasufin @Popehat Probably create pyrogenetic tornadoes instead (or fire-whirls on steroids if the heat's bad and constant enough at the firesite).
Aw hell... I think we just predicted the plot for the script of Sharknado 6.
@caffeinatedbookdragon @Popehat Sharknado 6: The Rise of the Squid.
@Popehat Snort..
Hope the elements are listening.

@Popehat

Pretty soon there'll be the fog that turns you inside out.

@Popehat

Was that the fifth seal I broke? Oops. My bad.

@rjblaskiewicz @Popehat Find the Gorilla Glue. Maybe it's not too late.

@Popehat

One apocalypse at a time, please.

@Popehat Sounds like you're a fellow San Diegan? Or southern California?
@Popehat [famine and civil war stand about, looking hopeful]
@Popehat Pray for Southern California. The devil is attacking them on all fronts.
