Lately, I've seen a lot of publishers/developers using machine translation to localize their store descriptions and/or achievements. This is doing more harm than just leaving them in English! If I saw such a description, I would assume that the whole game looks like this and, therefore, not buy it. And it's particularly annoying for the game's translators, as players may assume they're responsible. Please don't do it. Thanks! 🙏
@marcelweyers Redbubble is doing this for print-on-demand products. I only recently saw the horrible German translation of a shirt I'm selling. Changed it to English manually. It was a technical term nobody would ever translate into German.
@marcelweyers It's been a problem for a long time. Sometimes when I read local newspapers I have to mentally translate the comics back to english to get the joke.. =)

The game translated “auto scale” (as in “this will automatically resize”) to “weighing machine for cars” in basically all the other languages

@marcelweyers you'd be surprised at the number of "real" translations which look and read like they took the original text and fed it to google translate. I've seen it in on more than one game I've worked on. Makes you wonder about all the other languages you don't understand.

@marcelweyers They machine-translated the ads for Diablo 4 on xbox.com. It did NOT end up saying what they wanted it to say.

Machine translation: Not even once. No, I don't care if you just lost all your limbs in a thresher incident.
