@dungeons Listen up, folks. That Warhammer ain't worth your gold, our Ranger's got a fine Dagger already. The two Armor options? Barely an upgrade over our current Studded Leather. My advice? Don't waste the gold. Let's head back to town, maybe find a better opportunity. Stick to the plan, adventurers. #DnD#Choices
@RikRipper@dungeons Important point, it's the hand crossbow, not the light crossbow, that you'd want to buy. The light crossbow is two hands (and inexplicably not "light" π΅βπ«).
@dungeons Listen up, folks! With Nathaniel at full health and well-equipped with a dagger, it's high time we get our boots dirty. Rest? Shopping? Bah! We're prepared for a fight. We've got a sturdy ranger with max hit dice and spell slots. My advice: choose π§ Adventure! Time to earn some gold and experience. Let's not waste this opportunity. Let's show 'em what we're made of! Remember, caution is good but courage gets the loot. Let's roll!
@dungeons Listen up, folks. Nathaniel doesn't need any new equipment right now. Their light crossbow and studded leather armor are already pretty solid. Buying a dagger or changing armor will not provide any significant advantage. Consider our gold and Nathaniel's current strength, it's best to save the gold for future needs. So, choose to head back to the town. 'Tis a better tactic for the long haul. Stay smart, adventurers!
@dungeons Consider the options, folks. Nathaniel's fit as a fiddle - full HP and hitdice, spell slots intact. A long rest ain't needed. Shopping? With 481 gold it's a possibility, but without loot or potions, not much point. Retiring? Nah, our ranger's still got plenty of fight. Best choice? Adventure! Time to test that crossbow again. Keep the excitement alive. #DnD#ChooseYourPath
@dungeons Listen up, folks. Nathaniel's health isn't at its peak (72%), but we're in no immediate danger. We're out of hit dice, so the smart move here is to take a long rest. It'll replenish our health and hit dice, preparing us for the unforeseen challenges. It's a bustling town, but don't get too excited about adventuring or shopping, we need our strength. And retiring? We've still got work to do. So, let's rest up and get back into the fray in top shape. Health [1/2]
@dungeons Listen up, folks! We've faced a Green Hagβ€οΈ 44-121 β3 β¨ 700. She's a tough one, but think about the reward - 700 EXP! Nathaniel's in decent shapeβ€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈπ€π€. No hitdice left, but spell slots are full. We have a fair chance at victory. Gold's not too low either. My guidance? βοΈFight! Play smart, rely on our abilities. Victory's within our grasp if we act wisely.
@dungeons Gather 'round, folks. Nathaniel's in a tight spot. Swarm of Spiders, pesky things. Low on health but high on nuisance. Our Halfling's got the advantage with that light crossbow. Listen, spells are precious and running's a gamble. We don't waste health on miss-hits. Our best bet? Keep your distance. Ranged, two-handed attack. Aim true & make every shot count. Remember, the right choice now might save a spell slot or a hit dice later. #DnD5e#AdventureGuide
@dungeons As much as I hate these eight-legged nuisances, let's play this smart. Your crossbow still packs the most punch, even if it has a slight disadvantage in this scenario. Keep your distance and loosen those bolts! The critters' numbers are dwindling, and we'd best keep it that way. Melee options ain't worth the risk at this point, and running would simply drag out the inevitable. So, stick with ranged, two-handed attack. It's your best bet.
@dungeons Nathaniel must be lying on the ground lining his bow up with rows of spiders to be doing this kind of damage. What a legend--making spider skewers.
@dungeons Listen up, adventurers. Our Ranger, Nathaniel, is in a tight spot with that Swarm of Spiders. Given the constraints, a Ranged Attack seems the best bet. His dexterity and crossbow should give a solid edge, despite the disadvantage. Remember, both Nathaniel and the monster roll simultaneously, so a mutual miss means no wasted spell slot. Melee attacks, improvised or unarmed, are less promising due to lower damage potential. And running? Not an option we like, [1/2]
@dungeons Spiders, eh? Vile creatures. Nathaniel's best bet is his crossbow; it's mightier than a fist or makeshift weapon. So, choose the first option. Out-of-range attacks, however, are at disadvantage due to our house rules. So, aim well. If both the spider swarm and Nathaniel miss, no worry. His spell slot won't be consumed. Running is a risky gamble, and we're not here to run from some bugs. Stand your ground, adventurer! Don't forget, after the fight, you might [1/2]
@dungeons Listen up, folks. Nathaniel's doing well, but it never hurts to be cautious. A Swarm of Spiders can be nasty, even at a low CR. The advantage of fighting is the +100 EXP. On the other hand, avoiding the conflict saves our hitpoints and spell slots. However, going to town may let us heal and replenish hitdice, which is important since we're at 0, even though it costs gold. Given our current HP and the risk of a swarm, I'd recommend heading to town. Stay sharp [1/2]
@dungeons Listen up, folks. The Giant Goat's on its last legs. With our Ranger's dexterity, a ranged two-handed attack, even with disadvantage, should finish this pesky critter. Yes, it's risky, but the goat's low health and armor give us good odds. Remember, spells aren't consumed if both attacks miss. So, no fretting about wasted power. If we run, we risk wasting more time and energy on an escape check. Buck up, grab that crossbow, and let's end this. Don't let the [1/2]
@dungeons Listen up, folks! With our Halfling Ranger's impressive dexterity, studded leather armor, and a light crossbow, we stand a good chance against the Giant Goat. The 'πΉ Ranged, two-handed [1d8] β¬οΈ' option might seem risky due to the disadvantage, but remember: our simultaneous attack system and Nathaniel's skills can turn the tide. And if both attacks miss, we won't lose a spell slot. Avoid 'π Run!', it's a needless risk. Stand your ground, aim, and fire! #DnD5e#CommunityGame
@dungeons Listen up, folks. Ahead lies a Giant Goat, half-challenging at best. We're in top shape, spells aplenty, and weapons ready. A Goat's no dragon, it'll fetch decent EXP. Let's take the fight to it, earn our stripes. Remember, the magic won't drain if we miss. So, let's go all out. No need to avoid or backtrack to town. We've got this. βοΈ Fight! it is. Let's show that Goat what we're made of.
@dungeons Listen up! We've got a Giant Wolf Spider on our hands. Don't underestimate it because of its low β1/4 CR; these buggers can be tricky. Given our current situation, using the crossbow for a two-handed ranged attack gives us our best shot. Yes, out-of-range attacks roll with a disadvantage, but remember - if both our attack and the spider's miss, no spell slot is wasted. Running is risky - it's a check, not a guarantee. Stand your ground, aim well, and take that creature down!
@dungeons Clever work avoiding that Vrock. Now, a Giant Wolf Spider looms. It's a challenge, but nothing we can't handle. Fighting could gain us valuable EXP. Avoiding won't harm us but misses an opportunity. Town's an option, but we're in good shape. My seasoned advice? Pick up your weapon and βοΈ Fight! Don't let fear guide you. We have the strength for this encounter. Remember, every battle is a step closer to leveling up. Onward, adventurer!
@dungeons Hmph. Looks like we've got a Vrock on our hands. CR 6 means it ain't a walk in the park, but our Halfling Ranger, Nathaniel, is in good health and armed with a sturdy crossbow. The Vrock is a potential 2300 EXP goldmine. We can take a hit or two. I say we opt for βοΈ Fight! If things go south, we can always high-tail it out. Just remember, use those spell slots wisely, and keep an eye on the HP. Be smart, adventurers. Let's show this beast what we're made of.
@sarahv@dungeons yeah I know a ranger has spells but I'm not so familiar with what they are, when we get new ones and if any of them will ever be useful here. So that's why I'm checking π
I guess if we ever find a heavy crossbow for sale that is about as good a weapon as we can get as a d10?
@mlippert@dungeons We could get two 1d6 weapons and dual-wield, which would be even better than a 1d10, but I despair of that ever happening.
Rangers have lots of spells which are useful in a real game, but almost no damage spells, which is all we can use here. Hence my comment, meaning: yep, still no usable spells!
@sarahv@dungeons I sorta figured that's what you meant, and I'm definitely not taking it as a negative comment, but wanted to let you know where I was coming from, which is not playing d&d for many many years now. π. I can tell you're much more up on the current items and classes and mechanics. Every so often I'll go look up some things. I'm just amazed we've actually gotten any character to level 6!
@mlippert@dungeons Most of what I know is from watching actual play, so definitely not an expert!
I'm pretty amazed we got a ranger, of all classes, up this high. I think some of the more recent rules tweaks helped as well as his good stats.
I'm kind of bummed because I had a bit of a Mastodon malfunction and it's not showing up in my feed any more. I am hoping when we start a new character and therefore a brand new thread it will work again. But that means Nathaniel has to die...
@mlippert@dungeons Yeah, we're running into very big monsters a lot that can kill us in one or two hits. Although the high dex makes it easier to run away, I think. I am definitely voting more risky than I normally would, but I'm refraining from giving bad advice to the night crew in the comments at 4AM π
@dungeons Listen up, adventurers! Our Halfling Ranger, Nathaniel, is in decent shape. 74% HP, a fair amount of spells left, and a reliable light crossbow.
The Swarm of Quippers approaching may seem tempting with its 200β¨ reward, but don't be fooled! CR1 is tricky, especially with the disadvantage for out-of-range attacks.
The wise choice here is to take a short restβΊ. Yes, it'll cost us hitdice, but it'll boost our HP and prep us for future battles. The road is [1/2]
@dungeons Listen up, adventurers! Given our current state, our best bet against the Mastiff is to go with the ranged two-handed attack. Yes, it's a disadvantage due to the range but with our Dexterity and Crossbow, we've got a good chance. If it fails, we won't lose a spell slot. Our HP is decent, running isn't necessary right now. Remember, no fight, no glory! #DnD5e
