My first App Store downloads.
@siracusa Huh, NYT was one of my first too lol
@siracusa Does that include apps you may have hidden in the last 15 years as you no longer use them? I have early downloads that are now hidden I think.
@siracusa here are mine:
@airboss @siracusa I so desperately miss flight control.
@Sherf @airboss @siracusa There are 2 currently in the app store that are almost identical

@siracusa did you know that Super Monkey Ball game was originally supposed to come out for iPod? Apple got them early access to the SDK to bring it to the iPhone instead.

Also I’m kinda amused that the NYT homepage was such a big Safari demo at the announcement and then everyone downloaded their app rofl

@siracusa https://youtu.be/OF36SAm-S7o source on the iPod origins, based on an interview with the dev. 6:28 for the beginning of that part of the story.

@siracusa iTunes remote. ❤️❤️❤️
@siracusa AIM! I always took you for more of an ICQ man.
@siracusa this is giving me nostalgia for Bepot 🤖
@siracusa that first day was such a thrill. 29 total apps on day one as I explored everything.
@siracusa aahhh iTunes Remote - one of my first downloads too 😎
@siracusa I had forgotten all about Super Monkey Ball, but now I desperately need to play it again.
@siracusa what do you still use iTunes Remote for?
@tonyskyday I don’t even remember what that app does.
@siracusa
Some first App Store download overlap in my first few days
@siracusa 50% overlap with you!
@siracusa my first three screens (iPad screenshot).
@siracusa well my first few are embarrassing but I got my nerd cred on a few days later
@siracusa
I don’t remember any more what TruPhone did
@siracusa whoa, glad to discover Morocco this way! Been teaching my kids Othello/Reversi this summer. ⚫️⚪️
@jackjohnbrown Right above it is Reversi, which is the Othello-clone app I actually used.
@siracusa Ah! Can I bug you for a link? Running into some serious results pollution with a search for Reversi.
@jackjohnbrown It looks like it’s changed a lot since I last launched it many years ago. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/reversi/id284926400
‎Reversi

‎The classic game of Reversi, also known as Othello, is a much-loved strategy board game. It is often described as taking only a minute to learn but a lifetime to master. Each game only takes a few minutes, making it ideal for playing on the go. It can be played by all ages. This continues to be one…

App Store
@siracusa surprised to see a 2008 game still available for iOS. The 32bit Appocolypse removed so many of my favorites from my newer phones.
@siracusa super monkey ball. I miss that game
And I am not even on Facebook. 🤷‍♂️
@siracusa
And here are my first app downloads…
@siracusa Clearly there weren’t many apps. Mine were very similar.
@siracusa We still have and occasionally still play Morocco.
@siracusa I was slightly later to the game. But I remember those early apps days, back then I'd check review sites for cool new apps and games.
@siracusa
Looks like everyone liked WeatherBug.
@siracusa
In 2008 I was still on Windows and Linux. I got my first Apple device in 2009.
@siracusa My first App Store downloads.
@siracusa wait a minute, didn’t it take like 4 years before you had an iPhone?
@stevenodb iPod touch!
@siracusa I’d totally forgotten it launched in September 2007 🤯
@siracusa Google had an app back in 2008? What did it do?
@siracusa the oldest app that I downloaded and am still using is Facebook, ugh
@siracusa So did we ALL go straight to Super MonkeyBall? Here’s mine:
@siracusa i think you can tell my age range by the apps i downloaded
@siracusa here’s mine. I had gotten an iPod touch 3rd?? Gen. The one with a black plastic eye patch instead of a camera.
