Since apparently media people who know better are scaremongering about it: the two major US political parties select their presidential candidates via "primary elections", in which all registered voters of the party can choose between the potential candidates. The final formal nomination is then carried out by delegates from each state who conduct a roll-call vote confirming the result of the primary. Traditionally this takes place at each party's national convention.
This year, the US state of Ohio threatened to leave Joe Biden's name off its ballots for the November election, claiming that the Democratic Party's convention doesn't occur until after the election-filing deadline in Ohio.
To work around this, the Democratic Party will hold a conference call of delegates to conduct the formal nomination process before the Ohio deadline expires. It will probably take place in the next couple of weeks. This is:
* Not a new thing (the Ohio deadline issue and the plan to work around it have been public knowledge for a while)
* Not an attempt to somehow "force" Biden on anyone -- he won the primary election by a huge margin, and this is just the formal recognition that he won and thus will become the party's official candidate
* Not sinister or conspiratorial in any way (except in the sense that Ohio threatened to deny its citizens a free and fair election)
long shot, but what the heck i’ll put this out into the world:
