25 years as Apple Worldwide Developer Relations exec. Retired in 2021 to indulge my passions of retro computing, classic Porsches and Lego. What more could you want?
Time to finally play with my Christmas present. It only took 5 weeks Christmas summer holidays and a rainy day in Sydney to finally get to it. I am a massive #lego fan and a massive #startrek TNG fan. This one should be simple. However at 3600 pieces, 60cm long and weighing 5.6KG this could be interesting.
Well the Newton eMate is working after I rebuilt the the hinges and replaced the screen cable. I’ll rebuild the battery pack later this month. #retrocomputing
Does anyone know what the newest mac is that can use #globaltalk ? I currently have four zones at two locations (Vintage Computer Garage, Vintage Computer Garage LT and VCG, VCG LT). Both are currently run on LC475 logicboards. I want to repurpose the these logicboards. I have a heap of PM6100's and am thinking about swapping them in place of the LC475’s. Is there a definitive “Maximum" OS and hardware that AIR 3.0 needs?
I think Gurman got the coup/loss order wrong.

Does anyone still have Apple II shared volumes on #globaltalk ? I am testing an Apple II Workstation card this weekend and thought it might be fun to mount someone else’s volume on the net. Even better would be to boot from it.
I guess this is what you do when you have a few spare Mac Pro cases and some glass.

My final project for #MARCHintosh 2025. Sitting on the couch downloading an app to my #Newton #eMate over wifi from my workshop server that is 5 miles away on a different zone on #globaltalk.

Seems simple by today’s standards but that took a lot of retro tech to make it happen.

2x LC475 (AIR routers)
1x Original Airport Basestation
1x clamshell iBook to setup BS
1x rebuilt eMate battery plus eMate hinge repair
1x PCMCIA wifi card that would support #appletalk

That is a Mic drop for me.

@europlus What is the disk format for UTM/QEMU? I have an image I want to add to my UTM setup but every time I used .hda or .img UTM seems to be ok with the added drive but then gives me an “file does not exist” error.
Cool little admin tool for #globaltalk. The only issue is that you need an #eMate or #Newton 2x00, a wifi card that can handle AppleTalk, and original Apple Airport Basestation connected to your existing GlobalTalk node. It did a good job of finding @europlus Laser printers. Thanks to @splorp for pointing me to this little gem.
Success! An emate on #globaltalk wirelessly for #MARCHintosh 2025. It required a brain wipe of the eMate and a fresh install of all drivers but the eMate can now connect via AppleTalk to GlobalTalk and to the internet via TCP/IP with no wires.
