What's your favorite tool for making videogames which has:
🎨 Visual scripting
🌍 Export to browser
💸 No subscriptions
💀 Not been discontinued

#gamedev #gamedevelopment

Trying this again with clearer criteria, since most of the suggestions yesterday were not very helpful.
Spent a couple hours doing tutorials and poking around in GDevelop and so far it's looking promising.#gdevelop #gamedev
@gamesbymanuel I gotta check that out then
@edgarajesus Check it out! I am doing the tutorials that are within the tool, so you don't even need to look further in order to start.

@gamesbymanuel Unity fits the bill, technically (ever since they acquired Bolt), but even then it's an incredibly complex tool... it's the only engine I have extensive experience with, so that'd be my pick, but not necessarily my recommendation, heh.

Any other engine that comes to mind is already on your radar, I think; there's also still Construct, but that one does come with a subscription, I just found out

@DareLooks I've used Unity for work for a long time now. It is very powerful, but I find it overwhelming. I know I'd get stuck tweaking things and going back to 3D modeling, and miss the point here which was finding something I could quickly prototype ideas with and participate in game jams.

@gamesbymanuel I figured, and that's very fair!

There's also still Clickteam Fusion, but it looks very outdated compared to something like GDevelop, heh

@DareLooks I hadn't considered that one! The trailer on the page is from 9 years ago, but their youtube channel announced updates very recently.
@gamesbymanuel
Godot of course, but visual scripting was discontinued. but i never use it anyway
@Geo If Godot still had visual scripting, it would be at the top of my list. Since it doesn't, I'm looking for alternatives.

@gamesbymanuel I take part in a little meetup group that tries to make games in a 3 hour timeframe sometimes, and the leader of that group put together a spreadsheet of some small game engines. These are the ones that advertise visual scripting/no programming and are either free or are a one-time cost! I haven't used any of them so I can't vouch for them, but hopefully something here is helpful!

CopperCube - free easy to use 3D engine

@paetramon Thank you, I'll give them a look! I spent the last few hours doing GDevelop tutorials and it seems good so far. :)
@gamesbymanuel nice! I hope you've found or are able to find something that ticks all the boxes!
@gamesbymanuel I can only think of Unreal…
@MIfoodie Does it export to the browser? Its games tend to be much heavier.
@gamesbymanuel According to this video you can: https://youtu.be/lDkjb4X6IUA
Unreal Engine 4 on Web Browser is AMAZING!

@gamesbymanuel Fungus, though I'm not certain on exporting to browser. You might be familiar as it was created by Romero Games' Chris Gregan.
@TearsInRain
I've known him for many years! It's a great plugin, but I don't think it would cover the mechanics I'm after.
@gamesbymanuel I have heard good things about PlayMaker but, unfortunately, it isn't free. I'm mostly familiar with narrative tools, like Yarn Spinner, but that isn't much use to you either!
@TearsInRain
Not for this specific project, but maybe the next one!
