@mmasnick this also recalls my observation that every internet community tends to hyperbolise the belief that every other internet community is just. the. absolute. worst.
observed this kinda thinking over the years on reddit, twitter, Google+, even AV Club comment sections lol, etc etc
@ctbk @trinigod @mmasnick or maybe there is a serious, valid concern of welcoming the perpetrators of the Cambridge Analytica crimes to share your space 🤷♂️
but it’s easier to blame competitiveness and ego than discuss in earnest that so many people are cool with a high profile criminal organization joining the party
@mmasnick Give me my daily affirmation that I was prescient enough to choose the next best thing before the masses.
"How much did you pay for your rock and roll t-shirt....."
@mmasnick
I seem to recall similar trends back in 2008, but that was when dominance was much more up for grabs.
At least then it was trying to offer alternative features. Now that all networks have basically all the features, there's not much to differentiate the offering from all the rest.
@mmasnick I mean, this is funny but… I loved Twitter till musk. I loathe fb with the power of a thousand suns.
Mourning the loss of one ain’t the same as celebrating the advent of the other.
If I’ve misunderstood, apologies. It’s hot, late and I’ve had a day.
But fb ain’t new. That’s not why I was laughing.
@mmasnick
I hear ya Mike. I want to talk about #Threads content moderation.
They HAVE policies on violence, Incitement & hate speech in place at the launch. https://help.instagram.com/769983657850450
Will they enforce them? Accountable Tech & #ToxicTwitter sent out a call for #Meta to act. If they don't, how do we pressure #Meta to enforce their policies?
Run stories of violence, incitement & hate speech being left up to spread? Lawsuits?

@iagondiscord @mmasnick
Okay, so that's the account I'd follow, to see if they violate the #Threads policies on #hatespeech, #bullying & #harassment.
Meta WANTS to make AD revenue, where as #Twitter doesn't. We have some leverage here with the ad community.

that's the present, the future is tbd
