Trump set to pardon reality TV stars Todd and Julie Chrisley
President Donald Trump says he’s planning to pardon TV stars Todd and Julie Chrisley, famous for “Chrisley Knows Best,” a reality show that followed their tight-knit family and extravagant lifestyle. The Chrisleys were convicted in 2022 of conspiring to defraud banks in the Atlanta area out of more than $30 million in fraudulent loans by submitting false documents. They were also found guilty of tax evasion by hiding their earnings while showcasing a luxurious way of living that prosecutors said included luxury cars, designer clothes, real estate and travel. The move continues a pattern of Trump pardoning some high-profile friends, supporters, donors and former staffers.
Maybe I'm missing something, but this seems the most useless and deceptive act. Up to $25k deduction on up to $160k tip income? (How much tax is there on $160k? And why does anyone need a tax break making $160k?)
Vance should try reading the Constitution.
Congress is in charge. They make the laws and *only* they do. The President is responsible for the *enforcement* of those laws. The courts provide oversight that neither violates the laws nor the rules and constraints set in the Constitution.
Understanding that will give guidance on how to do what they want. Some (like birthright citizenship) may require an amendment.
Is that too difficult? Sorry, it is supposed to be. Our system is designed to be conservative - as in resistant to change. And that's by design. It really doesn't matter what the voters wanted Trump to do; Presidential candidates live to promise what's not in their authority to do. Most realize they need to use Congress. Trump apparently finds that too difficult. 🤷♂️
