BeeCycling has moved
Attention! I recently learned that the behaviour of lying flat out on the belly with arms and legs spread out that some animals do, often to cool off, by radiating heat into the cooler ground, is called "splooting." I personally have been calling it "going full rug", but I guess splooting is also hilarious. So here's a red panda splooting, in case you need a demonstration. #RedPanda

Not dead, just hot. We had squirrels who would sploot on the brick wall in the back yard in the shade and it was never not funny to see them cooling their bellies that way

@aka_quant_noir No doubt we'll start seeing more animals do it. Which might look cute, but not a good sign. 😔 At least zoo animals and pets can be provided with aircon and plenty of shade. Wildlife has just got to learn to cope.

@beecycling I've mostly heard this word in relation to corgis. Corgis frequently sploot, as their stumpy little legs make it just as comfortable as sitting the normal dog way.
