It began with the forging of the Great Platforms. 3 were given to the Blueskies, self-assessed wisest and fairest of all. 7 to the Twitter Edgelords, great memers and alt-right craftsmen. And 9, 9 were gifted to the race of Mastodon, who above all else desire content warnings. But they were all of them deceived, for another platform was made. Deep in the land of Meta, in the Fires of IG, the Dark Lord Zuck forged a federated platform, and into this he poured his cruelty, his malice and his
Attention! I recently learned that the behaviour of lying flat out on the belly with arms and legs spread out that some animals do, often to cool off, by radiating heat into the cooler ground, is called "splooting." I personally have been calling it "going full rug", but I guess splooting is also hilarious. So here's a red panda splooting, in case you need a demonstration. #RedPanda

There’s been a lot of speculation around what Threads will be and what it means for Mastodon. We’ve put together some of the most common questions and our responses based on what was launched today:

Love our readers!

After I announced that we lost 1k subscribers, merely for posting a story about a trans activist in Ukraine, you rushed in to close the gap.

If there was one piece of advice I could give to new Mastodon users who are finding their feeds quiet or boring, it is to follow as many people and hashtags as you can. This is not Twitter; there is no algorithm, it is not going to fill your feed with stuff it thinks you like. You have to curate it yourself. Once you do, though, it's so much more vibrant and rewarding than Twitter has been for a year. #TwitterMigration #Twitter

For anyone who's come over to the #Fediverse from #Twitter: One of the first things I did when coming here was seek out a bunch of #journalists to follow, so my TL could mimic the "current events" feed. Here's a curated Google Sheet listing over a thousand journalists who've made accounts over here, who cover all sorts of things from cycling to sports to breaking news. Use it to help populate your #timeline, #share broadly for exposure.

It is now painfully clear that no local government, state or federal agency, or other civic institution should be using Twitter for any purpose other than directing people to alternative platforms.

Using the platform for anything other than a last ditch backup for any kind of emergency communication is clearly a disaster waiting to happen.

My husband had to wait for 6 years to capture this view of #TheNeedles.

Taken as the #moon set at 4.30 am last summer. This shot is only possible a couple of times each year. He almost had it in 2016 but it was slightly too breezy and the telephoto lens couldn't keep in focus.

It causes controversy as some think it's fake, I promise you that it is not. It involved much research, persistence and luck with the weather! It's the cover shot on our 2024 calendar #IsleofWight #photography
