Why is Apple financially supporting Twitter for something like this? Just stick it up on YouTube or make it free on the TV+ or iTunes or any of their half dozen other platforms.

Apple Shares Full First Episode of Sci-Fi Show 'Silo' on Twitter

To promote the finale of popular Apple TV+ science fiction series Silo, Apple today shared the full first episode of the series on Twitter. Taking...

MacRumors
@paul people freaked the f out when they got a free U2 album

@monorailtimes @paul That’s because they pushed it into peoples’ personal music libraries, alongside their personally ripped/purchased music.

Making something available to stream for free in the TV app or web site isn’t the same at all.

@paul Silo is a show about an insular community of people who have been brainwashed into thinking they will die if they leave, so Twitter makes sense.
@paul @crumbs I don’t know anything about the show and 100% won’t watch anything in Twitter but if your answer is accurate, that sounds hilariously meta

@lazarus7 @paul @crumbs

This. Totally. It's subversive to get Tweeters to view a show that shines the light on oppression and fascism.

Very on-brand, IMO.

@crumbs @paul It's one of the stupidest premises for a show I've seen in ages honestly. So yeah, fits well with Twitter.
@paul maybe cause all the preppers would be on Twitter?
@paul funny thing is: it IS free on AppleTV+. A lot of their shows have the pilot episode up for free.
@paul Why wouldn't they? 🤷‍♂️
@paul great question! The book was great and the show is not bad at all. I do recommend it.
@paul exactly -- was this part of the emergency meeting a few months ago when Elon was screaming Apple was going to remove Twitter from the AppStore?
@paul Tim Cook must have some good dirt on Space Karen
@paul Because very shortly after the showdown meeting between CEOs, not only did Apple reappear on Twitter, but also Apple Music finally, after years, showed up in Teslas. I suspect a deal was made….
@paul Probably because Twitter paid for the privilege

@paul to me this seems like a test. Like hey let’s see if anyone here actually watches it.

My guess is that they’ll eventually realize it’s not worth it and dip. Apple already supports them via branded ads so I don’t see this as an extension of that current relationship

@paul The sad truth is nobody but us nerds and social issues minded people care about what Elon did or stands for. Outside this bubble, nobody cares and continues to use Twitter as normal.
@paul I hate that it is like this, but it is. Apple should do better, but clearly they also don’t care that much.
@paul I’m from Brasil and am actively trying to bring left-leaning people to Mastodon. The gravity of Twitter is just too high. People of interest don’t leave because they have an audience and the audience doesn’t leave because everyone’s there!
@paul Also Mastodon’s apps suck so much. I got a friend to download the Android app but the sign up flow gave a meaningless error. Come on! @Gargron
@mitt_rafael @paul Yes. My tech bubble has completely migrated to Mastodon, my left social activism bubble is still on Twitter. Beats me why
@below I tried lowering the barrier for entry by tweeting a step by step of how to do it. That didn't do anything. Sure my reach is tiny there, but still. The people here came here on their own and seem to fit the tech and/or very left leaning types. Not a bad thing, just a small niche.
@below I've seen a leftist teacher pay for Twitter Blue. That broke me.
@paul silo's first episode has been free day one since it aired on the apple tv app tho.

@paul It’s about reach. For most people, nothing much has changed on Twitter. There may be a few weird ads or followers, but that’s basically it.

Me, I’ve seen literally 12 times the exact same crypto scam from 12 different accounts in the last 48 hours on Twitter. Something that never happened in the previous 12 years of me being on Twitter.

@paul They did NOT PAY at ALL for promoted tweet on this. They DID just post it to their twitter feed - as they do many other things.
@paul Have Apple not always been one of Twitter’s biggest spending advertisers though? Hence why Tim Cook was able to summon Elon to Cupertino when the whole App Store fee thing happened last year. So maybe Twitter users in particular are open to Apple products and content for some reason?
Looks like the episode is free to all on the TV+ app too though.
@paul the most ridiculous part is that you *can* watch the first episode of all the shows for free without subscribing to TV+.
@paul preach. There are much easier ways to shove this in front of people.
@paul 90% tickling elons pickle for Tesla+iphone interests, 10% if you’re a dumbass enough to pay $8 for twitter you may be easily convertible to $5 for Silo and (demographically speaking) Platonic
@paul Can we rescind the six colors from Apple?
@paul In retrospect, that meeting with Elon a while ago looks like a lot of bullshit given how this doesn't make sense as a business decision.
@paul Well they aren't going to put it on a Google platform for one, and two putting it free in the app requires someone to go looking for it. Seeing free while browsing a social media sight might get someone to stop and watch.
@paul Isn't there an AppleTV even?
@paul it’s a really weird decision to launch a tv show on a platform that is not video-first.
@paul twitter uses in-app payment for subscription. You scratch my back and I scratch yours.
@paul extremely disappointed in #apple for choosing this route
@paul Apple plays politics like they care, but then repeatedly show they don't actually care if the bottom line is better doing the opposite. I'm sure someone on a marketing team said this move would have better return.
@paul Given Musk’s cis comment, I’m surprised Apple didn’t halt its presence. I’m amazed it then extended it. What is the red line? Maybe there isn’t one.
@craiggrannell @paul Or Apple intend to take over Twitter as they're one of the few with tons of money swilling about?
@serichards @paul I don’t see it. Apple makes shrewd investments that align with its business model. Buying a toxic social network seems reckless and a massive waste of money, along with being a resource-sucking headache.
@paul Probably because Musk threatened thermonuclear war. 🤣🙄
@paul Apple was like 10 years late to Twitter so I’m sure they’ll be a few years behind leaving as well.
@paul My somewhat optimistic take is that years ago, Apple prepaid for a whole lot of ads and guaranteed priority on the platform. The more optimistic take is that this is limiting current revenue into Twitter and large banks of Apple lawyers regularly remind Musk that he can neither back down nor disclose its existence.
