@georgetakei
Yes, but Presidents also take an oath to uphold the Constitutions and laws.

If anything, oath-taking politicians should be held to a HIGHER standard for legal compliance.

The alternative, that people invested with massive power by the public have LESS ethical responsibility, is absurd on its face.

@georgetakei There was someone on TV saying that at his age he shouldnโ€™t go to prison, so I guess at over 70 years you can do anything without the risk of prison. Or does that just apply to tRump ?

@DavidSE11 @georgetakei

Perhaps Trump shouldn't go to prison for his apparent violations of the Espionage Act, which may be as serious as those of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg. They didn't spend much time in custody.

@georgetakei
When will you abandon the hellsite and stop giving Musk content and legitimacy?

@georgetakei There IS an argument for at least SOME limited immunity. Presidents DO often have to make some snap decisions without having all the information possible.

That said, none of those arguments could possibly apply in this case.

@chemiclord @georgetakei that would be while in office and a function of his job. On Jan 21, 2021 TFG was a citizen, stripped of his security clearance because he exhibited poor judgement, as I recall.
@georgetakei Iโ€™d put espionage higher up on the list than murder. Murder is one person; espionage has a much broader effect.
@ba66e77 Agreed. The probability of informants working with Intelligence agencies being compromised and possibly losing their lives, is extremely high.

Counterintelligence officials said in a top secret cable to all stations and bases around the world that too many of the people it recruits from other countries to spy for the U.S. are being lost.

@ba66e77 @georgetakei And Mr. Smith has yet to finish with his Jan 6 investigation.
@georgetakei and the crimes he is alleged of committing may cause deaths

@cjnoyesuws @georgetakei Even if Trump were "just" a recruited willing Putin-apologist, prosecuting & indicting him for espionage & treason would justly be a matter of justice in defense of the people of the United States & their Union.

@georgetakei What's more, had it been done by a non-MAGA, you'd be hearing for calls for the death penalty (me? I'm only asking for a sanction proportional to what Reality Winner received).
@georgetakei this just seems to be another example (the ultimate example, really) of the Vulture Capitalism mentally to take over an established organization, gut it of any value and walk away from the ruins with your pockets stuffed.
@georgetakei And Yet his acts probably caused the death of agents used to collect the information he stored in the bathroom.

@georgetakei You can't have any crimes that are passes for presidents or ex-presidents but that are punishable for non-presidents without there being no rule of law.

That's the definition of the rule of law.

@georgetakei you also have no rule of law if you claim only someone with the same political affiliation as you can investigate, try, or judge you.

As it is a grand jury of ordinary Florida citizens voted to indict Trump. A Trump appointed pro-Trump judge will preside over his trial, and Florida citizens (which is a red State) will judge him. So even there he's getting very favorable treatment.

@enmodo @georgetakei Iโ€™d like to believe that Jack did this for a reason. If he goes in front of a GJ in DC this week ? Iโ€™d be worried if I were in the House. Our House.
@georgetakei The United Statesโ€™ (U.S.) trove of top-secret intelligence is among the countryโ€™s most protected information. If this information falls into the wrong hands, it threatens national security and compromises the safety of the many spies and foreign citizens involved in gathering, protecting, and disseminating information. These consequences can be life-or death, and the stakes are particularly high for foreign citizens who serve as U.S. government informants.

@georgetakei All the war crimes former Presidents commited haven't been avenged.

@georgetakei The judiciary & law enforcement don't need to apologize for bringing career criminals to justice!

The Rule of Law regularly guarantees the order indiscriminately serving the people's rule.

Even before his election he did claim he would be able to get away with murder and still get elected. It sounded like a ridiculous thing to say, but now I wonder if he said that to prep his followers to tolerate any crime from him.
@georgetakei The fact that #Trump wasn't instantly arrested and hasn't been since his failed #Jan6 #Coup attempt is a sign of weakness by the state!
@georgetakei Ironically, no one is really talking about the fact that while in office, he obviously used the documents in ways that were probably even more egregious and damaging. Of course, we won't learn about those stories until people who worked closely w/ him --and who served in the CIA, the State Dept, the military, etc. -- write books about them. I fully expect we'll be learning about what he and his powerful appointees (and family members) did for the next decade or two at least.
@georgetakei Republicans scream that Laws are important. But their actions show they never cared about the law!
@georgetakei Trump could commit a murder, leave his DNA at the scene of the murder and it could be captured on video.., the GOP and a 3rd of the country would look straight into the cameras and claim it was done by a Democrat dressed as Trump, and it's the greatest plot and injustice in the history of the United States to weaponize the the DOJ and prosecute the anointed one๐Ÿ˜ž !
@WonKru @georgetakei I agree. Trump could murder puppies and/or people on live tv and his base and the GOP pols wouldnโ€™t bat an eye.
@georgetakei What do we say to those who think that yes, he SHOULD be above the law?
