@gruber I don't want to dampen your enthusiasm about this too much but it sounds like this is going to be a multiplayer-only extraction shooter. Probably not what classic Marathon fans want.
@brianjlink @gruber They didn't even get the logo right.
@gruber “This video is private” — how do I join?

@gruber huh, looks private now.

BTW ever read about I Love Bees. It was a mind-blowing viral campaign. Formative internet moment for me. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Love_Bees

I Love Bees - Wikipedia

@gruber I played marathon 2, 1/4 screen on a 640x480 LCIII with 8MB RAM. It was maybe 10fps.

I am there.

@gruber Meh. Let me know when they have a Mac/iOS version.
@gruber John I cannot believe they announced a new marathon
@gruber but this “new” Marathon has nothing to do with the original one… it’s a team-based extraction shooter focused on PvP. They just reuse the name…
@otolithe It looks liek it's based in the Marathon Universe, one of the shots seems to show a S’pht. It should be interesting to see how much the finished game refers to the original.
@snourseman they lost me at team based extraction shooter… another Destiny-like loot-based online game.
@otolithe @gruber Just wait until you see the Oni remake they are working on next. It’s going to be a farming sim!
Probably not the first to find this, but ran into some impossible level design in Marathon 1

@ollicle I vaguely remember that — I always thought it was by design, part of the game.

@gruber I reckon the “weird” space was an artifact of Marathon’s pseudo 3D rendering engine. Which is all the more fascinating.

It was used for effect in at least one of the official multiplayer maps, but not the campaign that I recall.

Did you ever use the map editor? It was finicky and crash prone, but you could make your own maps. The spaces in the game were drawn with vector like points. Creating overlapping spaces was quite tricky, but getting it to work was delightful!

@gruber Would go to your link but the video is private :'(
@gruber To be honest the idea of a Marathon with no single-player campaign is dramatically disappointing.
@gruber The storyline was what made the game so incredibly memorable, and I say that as the guy that started Marathon Resurrection. (Which did multi-player that was super-fun, but the single-player campaign was the labor of love.)
@enhancedscurry You started Resurrection!?
@gruber Eons ago, in high school. They finished it when I'd been working at Apple for a year or so, released on World Bungie Day. It was a pleasant surprise getting that news.
Took some digging, but I found it!

Just wish I could find the stickers that came with it...
