#disability Mastodon, I need your help: can a grabber reacher tool, like the litter picker things, be used to open and close a window handle? Photo below for reference.

Distance wise I should be OK if I get an extra long one (110 cm / 43 in) but I’m not sure if it will work.

Or I could use a shovel… 🤔

Edit: but that’s too heavy.

@CyruxiME

Not sure if there might be better ones available to you, but the ones I've had have been pretty flimsy and not really useful for any task that requires turning with any amount of force.

I would think something like a large eye hook/screw eye screwed into the end of a dowel or broom handle or something might work better.

@liambean Thank you Liam. That’s what I gather from reading reviews of reacher tools online - they’re not very sturdy and can’t pick up a wet towel, so I don’t think it would work.

I had the broom + hook attachment in mind too, but I’m not sure my carer can tinker that. Maybe I could try to use a lightweight broom.

@CyruxiME @liambean I have a stick with a hook that I think was for pulling up socks or something that would work with that I think.
@CyruxiME I don’t have personal experience with it and don’t know if it could open a window, but have heard from another MECFS sufferer that he finds his grabber-reacher incredibly handy.
