Due to the U.S.A.'s mass-shooting frequency, Canada, the U.K., New Zealand, and Australia have issued travel advisory warnings.

@MeanwhileinCanada Not surprising. Poorly written article, but it's a stark reminder of how messed up things are.
@MeanwhileinCanada @xoagray if I could,I would emigrate. I felt safer as a first responder in Tijuana when driving towards the gun fire. At least I knew…this is ridiculous
@MeanwhileinCanada @xoagray on the plus side (sarcasm) I know how to spot cover, and egress routes. And yes, I can identify, mostly, gun type by ear. It’s a skill set that is proving useful, and it should not.
@MeanwhileinCanada And they should add whereLGBT folk ought to avoid if they still go
@MeanwhileinCanada - even though I am Canadian and have been living in the US for over 20+ years. I think that’s a little unnecessary. The common misconception is that you’re going to be shot by stranger. That’s not the case - 90% of the time it’s somebody you know or have a connection (like classmates or co-worker).

@iamjstates @MeanwhileinCanada

How many mass shootings were done by complete strangers? ALL

You're talking about the 1 or 2 being shot.

@AndyHarrison @MeanwhileinCanada mass shooting locations. 31% workplace, 8.1% residential, 8% K12 school, 5.2% college or university. Hence a high correlation of someone you know, or have a small degree of separation. Now just stay out of bars, shopping malls and your pretty much covered. Still a sad statement to be having this conversation.

@iamjstates @MeanwhileinCanada

Stay out of Texas.

@AndyHarrison @MeanwhileinCanada do not worry about that. It’s not a place I want to visit other than business.
@AndyHarrison @iamjstates @MeanwhileinCanada Remember the Alamo. Don’t mess with Texas.
@iamjstates @MeanwhileinCanada
you don't live in TX, obviously.
Let me guess, CA?
@iamjstates @MeanwhileinCanada And yet, in the US the chances of being shot by a stranger OR someone you know are exponentially higher than in civilised countries, due to the proliferation of guns there. I can assure you I’m more likely to be shot by a stranger in the US than anyone here. No one I know owns a firearm.
@clarissawam @MeanwhileinCanada absolutely correct. I do not agree with the laws here in the US and with very little critical thinking the solution is obvious. The difference is that these people have grown up with this absolute right to bear arms (even if it kills them) and they are afraid to lose them. They deal in absolutes as seen by the increase in mass shootings without any meaningful action.

@iamjstates @clarissawam @MeanwhileinCanada

I grew up with guns and have handled them safely and usefully for over 50 years. I know and hope that sensible laws are passed to limit access and regulate who may and who MAY NOT have weapons. I am not in the minority here either. It is just the paid for legislators that are not in step.

@diverdutch @iamjstates @clarissawam @MeanwhileinCanada same here. I own guns and am a responsible gun owner. I want sensible gun laws.

@iamjstates @MeanwhileinCanada

" Get used to appeasing murderous assholes?" Is that the message you have for us?

@graphictruth @MeanwhileinCanada that is what the nation of the United States is willing to bear. It’s the second amendment. Please do not shoot the messenger.
@iamjstates @graphictruth @MeanwhileinCanada Over 200 mass shootings in 4 months. It’s not always someone you know.
@Craktok @graphictruth @MeanwhileinCanada don’t look at absolutes. I’m talking strictly probabilities. Random acts of violence involving strangers happen and will continue (with or without guns).
@iamjstates @graphictruth @MeanwhileinCanada you can look at it that way if you prefer, but I’m thinking of the hundreds dead already. That scares me.

@MeanwhileinCanada

Also, NAACP has travel warnings for a couple of states for blatant racism.

@MeanwhileinCanada wow, that's deep... I don't blame them though.🤷‍♀️
@MeanwhileinCanada Kind of makes you proud to be an American, no? 🤦‍♂️ /s
@MeanwhileinCanada gee, who could've seen that coming? Everybody!
South Korea is next, followed by China and...,
@MeanwhileinCanada I live in a small border town in in Canada. We used to travel state side quite regularly. But since the rise of Trumpism (and all the divisiveness that has come with it) and gun violence, I haven’t been back since late 2019 and don’t anticipate any trips in the future. I’m quite happy with my butt right here in Canada.

@DownForce @MeanwhileinCanada

Nothing like an encounter with big-gutted 'merikun border fuzz to make you determined to never be put in that position again.

It wasn't even about me. I am white and I know how to...

The Asian couple in the next line over were being asked why they didn't just go home. The racist prick did NOT mean Richmond, Bc.

Once I returned to Canada, I have never left. I can't imagine what would convince me.

@MeanwhileinCanada I'm guessing the more red a state is the more dangerous it is
@gavinisdie @MeanwhileinCanada on the nose. They claim otherwise but everything bad is because the red.
@MeanwhileinCanada save yerselves. Use us as a case study in the future or something. Root out bigotry and greed before its cultists take over. Do whatever necessary.
@MeanwhileinCanada Finally. The US routinely issues travel advisories about countries that are far less dangerous than the US. International travellers are wise to heed warnings about the ongoing, out of control and deadly US crisis.
@MeanwhileinCanada It makes unfortunate sense.
@MeanwhileinCanada
Well deserved. America is the mass shooting capital of the world.

@MeanwhileinCanada

We need to do the same for the Summer travel folks!!

@MeanwhileinCanada An article that insists I turn off my spam blocker lol.

That's up to them but the mass shootings mostly happen in places where they have posted a no-guns sign or a federal guns ban.

@MeanwhileinCanada
That's what the GQP wants, no foreigners
@MeanwhileinCanada Honestly should put in complete travel bans.
@MeanwhileinCanada every responsible country should do the same. And the US Federal gov't should likewise put states like TX, that have completely unregulated sales and carry laws, on a "do not visit" list!
@MeanwhileinCanada Reading this thread makes me feel really bad for all the people I know living there. One thing I would say is that there are skill shortages in a lot of other English speaking countries and visas and support to move are available for people with certain professions. Look into it. Emigrating is hard but you deserve a right to a life without the fear of being shot going to school/ university/ the shop/ someone's front door etc. It's nuts.
@MeanwhileinCanada United States of America, leader of the free world everyone.

@MeanwhileinCanada Interestingly, I've lived in the same room in Brooklyn for nearly 41 years of my life and the only real guns I saw were in cops holsters.

Fortunately, the travel advisories make that clear that the US in general is actually safer than the carnage portrayed on the news and that we are not, in fact, a war zone.
