Just a small voice on the Internet (but buzzing with ideas). I love bad puns, puzzles and nerdy things. I teach and am interested in all things education related (also politics especially UK).

This from @GottaLaff suggests a radically simple resistance / sabotage approach for anyone working inside the US federal government right now:

Just don’t and say you did.

BS order from the fash? Ignore it. Say it’s done and do nothing. Insist it’s done and still do nothing. Argue angrily that it’s done and do nothing.

They don’t even know what they’re asking. They’ll change their mind at the drop of a hat. They’ll swear they never even asked for it. So just don’t do it. Don’t take their requests seriously. Don’t imagine their rules apply. Do nothing and make them have to scramble to prove you didn’t do it. https://mstdn.social/@GottaLaff/114105716538536534

*blink* "NEW: #Trump abruptly walks back his directive to fire thousands of federal employees across agencies. Not clear what this means for the thousands of people he already haphazardly fired. Julie Wilson, general counsel of the National Treasury Employees Union, tells HuffPost that Trump's probationary firings are “indisputably a reorganization attempt” and that the administration has failed to follow proper procedures, including giving workers notice" https://www.huffpost.com/entry/trump-reverses-directive-fire-federal-employees_n_67c65042e4b044c440ed75bd?hid

Obama created a technical guru group to fix healthcare.gov. When the clown show came back to town musk fired 40 of them and pulled 65 into DOGE. 21 just quit with a group resignation letter:

“We will not use our skills as technologists to compromise core government systems, jeopardize Americans’ sensitive data, or dismantle critical public services,” they wrote. “We will not lend our expertise to carry out or legitimize DOGE’s actions.”

DOGE staffers resign en masse to protest Musk's slashing of federal government

Twenty-one civil service employees have resigned from Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, saying they're refusing to use their technical expertise to “dismantle critical public services.” The staffers wrote Tuesday in a joint resignation letter obtained by The AP they “swore to serve the American people" and uphold their oath to the Constitution across presidential administrations but it has become clear they “can no longer honor those commitments.” The staffers who resigned worked for what was once known as the United States Digital Service. Musk called the story “fake news” and said the staffers would have been fired if they didn't resign.

Woah the weirdo freak with dead eyes who loves the Roman Empire and built a website to rate and stalk women is a secret fascist??!

I’d like to send a special “fuck you buddy” to all the boomers that told me “oh you’ll get more conservative as you get older, once you get some money”

I don’t know what world those people live in, but every day since probably 1989 everything I have seen in the world has only convinced me more and more that capitalism is a disease that is destroying lives and the planet.

Worst Person in Tech 2024 - Round One

The end-of-year contest from Tech Won’t Save Us to let YOU choose the worst person in the tech industry is back! Here's how it works: Every day I’ll post the matchups and you'll have 12 hours to vote. That will give me time to tabulate the results and get everything ready for the next round. Results will be public in each round, except for the final one: on Friday, December 13 the winner will be announced live on our end-of-year livestream for Patreon supporters — with a public announcement across our social media channels to follow soon after. This round ends at 9pm ET. You don't have to vote in every match if you don't want to. Let the voting begin! A couple notes: Yes, we're using Google Forms. It's not a ploy to collect your email address, as the little icon below this should indicate. I turned that option off. We're using it for two reasons: Twitter's user base has splintered so using its polls isn’t a good option (not to mention not wanting to do any more than necessary on the Musk platform) and because every other option was just prohibitively expensive for some year-end fun. If you don’t like it, don’t play. Enjoy!

“When life gives you lemons, make lemonade” is supposed to be about making the best of a bad situation.

But, having lemons is not, in fact, a bad situation. People willingly buy lemons all the time, in order to have them. Lemons are great.

Secondly, you need a *lot* of sugar to make lemonade. The best you can do otherwise is make lemon juice. So having lemons alone isn’t enough.

A more accurate phrase would be, when life hands you a crushing blow, expect dickheads telling you to perk up.

Ever wondered why walking around museums is weirdly tiring? At normal speed our legs act like pendulums, swinging forward from the hip & saving us a huge amount of energy. In "museum shuffle" our muscles must do ALL the work of constant readjustment. So cake in the cafe is scientifically justified 🥳
