Jay States@MeanwhileinCanada - even though I am Canadian and have been living in the US for over 20+ years. I think that’s a little unnecessary. The common misconception is that you’re going to be shot by stranger. That’s not the case - 90% of the time it’s somebody you know or have a connection (like classmates or co-worker).

Hence a high correlation of someone you know, or have a small degree of separation. Now just stay out of bars, shopping malls and your pretty much covered. Still a sad statement to be having this conversation.

Clarissa@iamjstates @MeanwhileinCanada And yet, in the US the chances of being shot by a stranger OR someone you know are exponentially higher than in civilised countries, due to the proliferation of guns there. I can assure you I’m more likely to be shot by a stranger in the US than anyone here. No one I know owns a firearm.
@clarissawam @MeanwhileinCanada absolutely correct. I do not agree with the laws here in the US and with very little critical thinking the solution is obvious. The difference is that these people have grown up with this absolute right to bear arms (even if it kills them) and they are afraid to lose them. They deal in absolutes as seen by the increase in mass shootings without any meaningful action.

I grew up with guns and have handled them safely and usefully for over 50 years. I know and hope that sensible laws are passed to limit access and regulate who may and who MAY NOT have weapons. I am not in the minority here either. It is just the paid for legislators that are not in step.
