@ekana @ahriboy @fribbledom And they can still harass, because they could easily marshall other users on the network who haven't yet been hate-flagged, as well as targeting the huge numbers of users who've neglected to flick the hate switch to "off".
They can organise on Mastodon, yes, but on tiny walled-off servers where all they can see and reach is other extremists. There's no reason to give them another huge mainstream platform to use.
@hughster @ahriboy @fribbledom usually in this story the user would take their account private to weather the storm but I'm not sure if Bluesky has that option. But again, it's not like these things don't happen of mastodon.
I'm not saying it's perfect, it's not, but no system is perfect. But the good this is it's being built in the open, and soon people will be able to directly contribute.
@ekana @ahriboy @fribbledom It can. But this doesn't change the fact that they're on the same platform, replying to all your stuff directly, marshalling others to try to dox you etc. in your own threads, and all you have to do to turn your social media site into a dangerous extremist cesspit and be flooded with vile notifications is to flick a single switch.
If you're going to have moderators to flag extremists, why not just have them kick them and their content off? Why won't BS do that?
@fribbledom I get the sentiment.
That said, there's probably going to keep being a couple different platforms which will be closed, ActivityPriv, ActivityPub, etc. It's just how things go.
@zii_0 @alfredbaudisch @fribbledom I've seen _normal_ people too but yeah, it seems to be surrounded by cryptocrap (ex Twitter's Jack is the head of that thing so is expected to be like that)
Is also super limited, basic features like blocking seem to not work and other things.

@fribbledom
- Bu...but it's from the same guy who made Twitter! 🤪
+ So you think that's something good?
Nah, just look at my disgruntled face 😂
@fribbledom This is exactly how I feel about the #Bluesky Buzz. The #Fediverse is great and open and not backed by a company.* So why bother?
* Technically, #Mastodon gGmbH is a company, but they are legally non-profit.
Very unlikely, since Bluesky created their own protocol (AT protocol) and don’t use ActivityPub (which powers the Fediverse).
Most of the hype atm(!) is just generated by being invitation only (remember club house?), co-created by the founder of Twitter - and being “decentralized” with one node only (so not decentralized at all) - so it’s a way smoother onboarding for people who only use the big player and never owned different domains/email addresses 😉
@fribbledom @skpodila I’m also kind of not getting it. I joined Bluesky too and it’s incrstuously toxic like Twitter already.
I’m somewhat perplexed by how quick that seemed to happen.
I’m confused by the problems of this site and I’m confused how Bluesky got that way already. 🤷🏼♂️
Yep. Waiting for the collective brain trust to pick a platform.
@fribbledom Problem for me, coming from Twitter: "Where are my existing friends here on Mastodon?"
My existing friends: "I'm on BlueSky."
Me: "Got an invite?"
Discoverability is an issue on Mastodon. I completely understand it was originally created by people who don't want to be discovered *by default*, but hey, could we at least opt-in for discovery, somehow?
Opt-in to what? Which Twitter features make you more discoverable?
