@researchfairy oh, that's really unfortunate! I've just discovered that qualtrics (the service we are using) is having issues today.

Hope it will be fixed soon, hopefully you can try later?

I tried yesterday, and Qualtrics looked fine, but I spent ~ 10 minutes identifying cars and never got to your survey

This sort of thing sometimes happens to me on random sites because I use a VPN

Mentioned this in my survey response, but I think something missing from this is that the main explicitly stated reason a lot of people I know chose Mastodon over Twitter was the concern that Elon Musk's Twitter encourages fascism and spreads propaganda and disinformation.

This is probably not a major use-case, but just wanted to let you know that you are likely excluding that part of the Fediverse from your survey.

@ccamara sat down to take this, and... the first question asks "Could you indicate how important or unimportant the following topics are for you?", and I think that needs some context. Like how much I want to discuss each of those topics on social media? Would I talk about it with my friends gathering for lunch? Also the semantics of terms like "free speech", without context, given the current racist dog-whistle usage of that term, gives me pause. So I'm closing the tab b/c I'm not sure...

@danlyke the quesiton you are mentioning refers to interests, in an abstract sense, so they do not necessarily have to be strictly linked to any social media activiy.

Admittedly, Free speech is a tricky concept, so provided free speech was important to you, you'll see an extra question that tries to understand what does it mean to you.

@ccamara yeah, I think that's where I fell down. I mean, in some sense I'm cofounder of an organization that works on some of those issues within my community and spend time on those events, on the other hand I spend much of my leisure time in my workshop making sawdust, which is none of those.

So, yeah, sorry, I just didn't know where to go with that prompt. I couldn't tell from the text of the survey what you were trying to elicit.

@ccamara ok, but the questionnaire does not include questions about how people who do not use Mastodon participate in Fediverse. So almost nothing can be meaningfully analysed about this group.
I also have a Mastodon account in parallel (see below), but quite a few people here in #Fediverse don't have one either. @__nate__

@joqatana that's perfectly fine. The aim of this survey is not to agree on how wonderful Mastodon may be. If everyone said that, it would clearly be biased. So, the more diverse the sample is, the better. Thanks for contributing in this.

@ccamara @__nate__ got stuck where the right arrow button gave an error, gave up after 3 failures. Using the browser built in to the Ice Cubes app on iOS

Also, the early question about free speech doesn’t have any answer options that match my views, and requires an answer; I chose ~”no opinion” because that was the closest to “other”, but I feel like that could give you misleading results
