Russia’s energy blackmail has failed.

Thanks to the efforts of EU citizens and businesses, we have cut our gas use by 19%. And our gas storage is still filled at 62%.

We are phasing out Russian pipeline gas by diversifying our energy supplies. In 2022, our LNG imports have increased by 68% compared to 2021.

And we are massively investing in renewables to produce clean energy in Europe.

With European unity and a smart energy policy, we are strengthening our energy independence.

@EU_Commission

@EU_Commission the LNG terminals seem to be juicy targets for someone wanting to disrupt european society.
All it takes to start the biggest BLEVE ever is a well-placed torpedo?
Sure hope we protect these installations adequately!
@EU_Commission check e.g. Mark Greaney Tom Clancy / Jack Ryan - Commander in chief (fiction). Same series that has a book about Russia invading the Krim shortly before it happend for real...
@EU_Commission If we get all the permits, our house will have a solar power plant by the end of the year.

@EU_Commission It is exceedingly annoying that your brag is that you're all getting your act together to lessen reliance on oil, entirely for what are petty geopolitical reasons.

If the sky doesn't catch on fire again because of this drastic change in policy, good. But it shows this was always possible, and that more could still be done provided you're given a sufficient boogeyman to justify it.

@EU_Commission I hope LNG doesn’t become another long term crutch…
@EU_Commission Reality check: You're buying Russian gas from India at a marked up price.
@EU_Commission So the amount of gas coming in has been reduced by 19% - has the amount of money paid for it going out also reduced, or is more being paid for less? Because consumer prices seem to have increased significantly..

@EU_Commission

Accelerating the transition to renewables will save democracy from subversion by moneyed oil interests.

@Npars01 @EU_Commission

That's exactly why these moneyed interests are against renewables.

They don't give a rat's ass about democracy or a liveable planet as long as they have power.

@EU_Commission

Cool. Step (2) Replace the Gas powerplants by low carbon, controllable, nuclear powerplants.

And then we will be on good track to reach carbon neutrality.

@EU_Commission

Build wind generation as if you were at war.

@EU_Commission - best news of the day ! Russian blackmail didn’t work😂
@EU_Commission Great news! We need to go faster on this track!
@EU_Commission "Phasing out Russian pipeline gas" by bombing Russian pipelines; that is Fascism; not Democracy.
