If you could only choose one Linux Distro to use for the rest of your life, what would it be?

@thelinuxcast Manjaro 1st, then Arch for me.
@thelinuxcast Debian because it will be the most stable thing in my life(?
@thelinuxcast Fedora Forever and Ever - Red Hat Linux/Fedora Users since 1997

@thelinuxcast Do you consider Endeavour OS as Arch or as an individual distribution? I always saw it as an installer for Arch with predefined setups.

Well okay, that's probably what a distro is meant to be. But I make the distinction between distro like Ubuntu and Manjaro and then, some like Endeavour OS which is basically Arch itself.

But I voted Arch nonetheless.

@thingsiplay If a arch distro uses the arch repos, then it's arch. Manjaro does not, hence, not arch. EndeavourOS does, so it is. That's the way I always look at it.

@thelinuxcast I agree with you, that's why I voted for Arch.

But this goes back to the question in forever, what a "unique" distro in general means. But overall, at least with Archlinux, we agree both. :-) That's something!

@thelinuxcast if there was a “arch that never breaks” option i'd probably pick that tbh.
@ryankage @thelinuxcast very same (:
So nixos - I choose you! Well, already chose and personally don't see a single reason to hop.
@thelinuxcast probaby #debian because it is used for most servers and other computers even though i use and love #arch on my daily driver. Running #arch as a server os would be kinda funny.
@thelinuxcast
Honestly, I've been enjoying NixOS enough that I think I'd go with that.
@thelinuxcast With Debian, it's possible that when buying new hardware throughout my life, it would have limited support with the ancient kernel it uses, Arch is great, but as much as I like change and to tinker now, probably won't in the future, so Fedora is a good middle ground
@thelinuxcast
Fedora because of the usability features and community. Recently got to know about @fedora.design project and #CreativeFreedomSummit they held, very friendly environment for people with various levels of accomodation with Linux.

@thelinuxcast Pop!_OS, but with KDE.

I want an Ubuntu base, but newer kernels and stuff

@thelinuxcast Fedora, if i have to reformat my computer after that point and Fedora 38 Sway is still not out then imma just not use a computer
@thelinuxcast ok ok where is #openbsd ?
@searcherEye "Linux Distro" I believe are the words you missed in the toot
@thelinuxcast nixos. If I had to learn the tool chain, that would be the way to go for just one distro imo
@thelinuxcast And my vote for "Debian" is actually Ubuntu.
@thelinuxcast what if I have complaints frolm Debian but it's pretty great so I don't have enough motivation to try other ones? 😬 I guess it's Debian for me.
@thelinuxcast atm Arch but I think when I get older I would switch to debian to lower maintenance
@thelinuxcast I've been enjoying OpenSUSE Tumbleweed! Very good rolling release.
@thelinuxcast I would stick with gentoo for sure. It's rolling, it's stable and as customizable or vanilla as you want it.
@thelinuxcast Manjaro and Arch, on desktop, Debian on Server, VM, etc...

@thelinuxcast I keep trying different Linux distros and I've never been happy with one.

#FreeBSD for my desktop and servers, but for my laptops I want #Linux. Based on what I've tried, I guess I'd have to answer elementary.

@thelinuxcast a minimal #Debian #testing for system packages with #Guix for user packages
By system packages, I mean the basic #xfce4 and any dependencies
Everything else installed, removed, and played around with Guix
@thelinuxcast
I ether go with guix or nix. I do like just one or two files to figure my whole system.
I am leading towards Guix. Because Guix allow to use flatpaks and nix package manager. I also like to learn more about the scheme languages.

@rstewart456 you can enable Flatpak support on NixOS with

services.flatpak.enable = true;

@davidak
I like that Nix have support for flatpak.

one of the reason I am leading towards Guix is because I am interested in the scheme language and Guix configuration and package manager is writing in guile scheme.

@thelinuxcast so far #NixOS with #Pantheon desktop is nearly perfect

i'm using it for the last 7 years

@thelinuxcast for now I choose #archlinux ..
I'll be installing #fedora soon on my laptop... Who knows maybe my answer will change...

@chandanhegde @thelinuxcast Fwiw, #archlinux [#KDEPlasma + #Xfce] & #SparkyLinux [#cinnamon] dual-boot on tower, & [since only recently] #Fedora & #MXLinux [both #Xfce] dual-boot on lappy.

@thelinuxcast Debian. Not because it's better than any other choice, but that's because it's the one I'm the most used to.
@thelinuxcast
Definitely #NixOS, almost all others seem hopelessly complicated and high maintenance. Only Fedora Silverblue could be a potential option for workstations.
@thelinuxcast Definitely NixOS
Completely changed the way I think about operating systems
@thelinuxcast Gentoo - if I can’t funroll my loops, what is even the point?
@thelinuxcast Debian, because Kali has to be available.
@thelinuxcast I am between Manjaro and Fedora :)
